Default Evolution vs. Religion

I'm not sure if there is already a thread here pertaining to this matter, but I recently commented several times on a photo on facebook regarding the matter, and I find christians to be extremely closed-minded.

Several hundred responses in some girl said:
Quote:
what really happened was what Christians think, if we really came from apes, why aren't the present apes still evolving??? dumb ppl... ... if u came from a monkey, happy 4 u!!
I responded in a more logical manner:
Quote:
They are evolving, but at a very slow rate, why do you think we study Apes? Because they provide insights to human conditions, If Apes evolved at an accelerated rate they would supersede us as a much more advanced race, you people act as though because evolution can occur quickly that it only occurs quickly, the result of humans is more than likely competition and geographic isolation, as Darwin stated, the separation and competition of a group within a particular species is the cause of evolution.
A lot of people agree, I want to know what this community thinks regarding the issue at hand, please don't flame or insult a particular group in the process, just express your opinion :3

Yes, yes, I agree that evolution is legit, though I do believe some cosmic being (G-d) did start the gears to get it going by creating some sort of minuscule being. So yeah, I believe in a mix of evolution and creationism.

However, what concerns me more is your blanketing of all Christians being evolutionists, and assuming that religion itself is closed minded.

You're best off just using small replies that directly answer any ignorant questions; detailed paragraphs like the reply you've posted there will just confuse. I would've just given the answer "apes are still evolving" and waited for the next comment.

I think Teen Forumz is pretty evolution-friendly relative to other internet forums you might find, but I don't actually know: I tend to steer fairly clear of evolution-creationism threads because I really don't give a toss.

Another one of these threads I always seem to get too involved in.
I guess I'm just going to say I'm Atheist/Agnostic and for evolution.

I'd like to believe there is some sort of force or being that created us. Maybe he/she/it gave us the ability to evolve?

But yeah, evolution is real. There are just so many signs, I find it hard to believe how they can be ignored. People shouldn't be blinded by their religion so much that they can't see obvious facts.

I don't believe in evolution and I am a Christian. I think a lot of athiests or whatever are just as close minded to thinking we're all close minded Most athiests are so hard to debate/talk with as I'm assuming it is with a lot of christians too because they're just SO set in their ways. And it's different then just not changing their opinions, a lot of athiests (in my history) won't even listen or try to see the other side. and most are very harsh and mocking of religion too. So, I guess it's both ways and people need to stop saying one is worse thent he other or whatever.

I'm atheist and I have seen the other side, I used to be catholic, forced and imposed by my parents, forced to go to church, forced to attend a catholic school, school taught me the corruption of the church, maybe not all religion is bad, but I found hope in science.

And some find hope in religion. Two sides of the same coin, my friend.

Forced relgion and real, self choosing religion is a hugeeee difference. Please don't steer away from religion just because of the one you were forced into.

I believe in science.
Unless there is hard, uncontroversial and tangible proof, it's just a theory.
And IMO, It's foolish to place all your eggs in one basket because when it comes down to it, there's a large possibility that you're either right, or a large possibility that you're wrong.

As for me, I'd much rather live my life whatever way I choose without worrying about some higher almighty deity punishing me for some insignificant sins.
Does a god of some sort exist?
He might, but probably not considering all current evidence points to evolution so That's the way I'm leaning simply because the proof of evolution will have to be based upon science whereas the existence of some deity will never be able to be proven by science.
