I'm a 17 year old girl and I'm depressed and I have finally accepted that. The reason though is because I don't have a father/father figure in my life. My dad lived in another country for more than half of my life and the desire for a relationship with him left a long time ago. This year, I've been talking to my p.e teacher and he's been giving me advice and talks to me whenever I needed it. But then one day I asked him if he would be my mentor and it took him a long time to answer and he avoided the question. He was like "Uhhhhhhhh....I can talk to you if you need to talk." That crushed me so hard and I still think about it all the time, even when I see him. I've recently been smoking weed more to ease this pain and other pain. I just don't know what to do when I see him or anything. That rejection was the most painful one and I can't stop reliving it. I honestly don't want to go through this anymore... I'm rejected by everyone. I just want to die so it can all go away.

I think you took his response the wrong way. that is FARR from rejection. I don't see where he said "no go away" he probably just wasnt sure how to respond.

So what do you suggest?

Just because he won't be your mentor doesn't mean that he can't be your father figure. Just keep talking to him when you need it. I don't think he rejected you per se. If it hurt you that badly, then I suggest that you either talk to him about it or find someone else to talk to.

I wouldn't talk to that person anymore more than I need to maybe try to find someone else

Every thing is just a new sensation, accept it and move on.
No need to focus on it and label it bad or good.

Why is being a mentor necessary to be your father figure? It seems like he already was before you asked him that question and put him on the spot. Just act like nothing happened and keep things the way they were. It seems like you two had a good thing going. He didn't reject you and he said you two could keep talking. So keep talking when you need it. No harm in it.

I think you put him on the spot... You don't really ask someone to mentor you, really. You kind of just assume the role. I would go about pretending like it didn't happen, you know?

I've seen people who wanted to die. That's bad. You don't have to die !!!
Find some hobby. Hobby like motorbike or jumping from an airplane. Go out with your friends. You don't need that professor for mentor. Use him for talk, and that's it!
