You've not given us much to work on..

To be honest it entirely depends on the situation and the fact that everyone is different.

I don't think anyone will be able to give you a definate answer.

As what Crystal says, I agree.

However, this thread is listed in the depression section. My best guess would be to go into counseling and receive medication. Two solutions are better than one or none.

Medication is a last resort in my opinion.

Medication can help, but it can also cause other problems. If anything, it just makes you feel kind of numb and mellow all the time. Which isn't necessarily horrible, especially if your depression is really bad. But I would talk to a counselor before you think about medication. And if your counselor recommends that you take medication, then you can. Honestly, medication isn't going to solve your problems. It's better to try and work through them with therapy and use it as a backup if it's needed.

as Crystal said, it depends on the symptoms. Meds work best on what's called the 'neurovegattive symptoms': Appetite, sleep, energy, sex...the physical symptoms of depression..as well as sad affect, etc. that are extreme and clearly interfering with functioning.

Therapy works best when the symptoms aren't physical...and there's a clear reason for the depression (usually loss or disappointment).

When both symptoms are present, the research clearly shows that regular therapy and meds are the most effective treatment.
