Default Sigh.

I've been depressed for a while I guess.
I guess it just feels like I'm not as popular as some of my friends.
Whenever I do something, no one acknowledges it, sad. But whenever a friend does, it's noticed and appreciated. It kinda hurts not "rolling with the big boys" at school I guess. It feels like everyone wants to be friends with everyone around me BUT me.

It kinda hurts. No clue what to do really.
Any advice?

Sorry to sound so.. you know, negative >=

Hey Shemi,

So first, your depression is normal. Teenagers go through it all the time. However, what is interesting about your case, is thats it not the normal issue. You have friends, they simple appear to be more popular then you. Well, while that is possible, that probably is not the case.
People strive to be with a more popular crowd, and, as mean as it is, probably would have ditched you by now if you were that much less popular then them.

I most likely is that you perceive them to be popular, thus bringing down your morale. I personally think you're going to be alright. Just go with it, and talk to them about how you feel. If you don't want to do that, find an outlet.

If you need anything, drop me a line on MSN or here.

Hi Shemi, Sorry your feeling like that.

I agree with Jared, it's different because you have friends, perhaps you are just perceiving that they are more popular, not that it matters though, you are 17, soon popularity will not be your identity, you will have to enter the real world, where school ground antics are not important.

Maybe take this time to develop your own identity, take a step back and realise what is important in your life. By doing this I am sure you will see that you are blessed with friends and people who care for you.

All the best
-Ann.
Sorry I wasn't all that helpful.

Hey there,

I'm gonna throw something out here that may or may not help. Popularity isn't everything. It's not really important, it doesn't mean much, and it's terribly overrated. Yes, everyone wants to have friends, and sure, the more the merrier, but wouldn't you rather have real friends than lots of fake ones? It's probably not the case that everyone wants to be friends with everyone but you, it's probably just that you see it that way because you're not recognising the fact that your real friends are there for you and care about you. I expect you're appreciated a lot more than you feel you are, and you just don't see it too much. I understand how you feel, don't get me wrong, I just think that perhaps you should look further than you already are. Try looking at the little suggestions that people appreciate you, rather than the big ones. It's okay to feel depressed sometimes, but don't let it hold you back. Don't let it rule you. It can get better, and being popular wont necessarily be the thing that makes it get to that stage.

I hope you feel better soon,
Dana.

Does it matter about being popular? When i was at school i was a nobody, i only had a couple of friends. To everyone else i didn't exist.
I got used to it, it didn't bother me after a while. It only bothered me when my best friend started ignoring me and acting like i didn't exist. That really hurt.
