Default Dad wants me to be his chaperone for his coming date

Later this week, dad is meeting a foreign friend he used to chat in facebook for months. This is his first date after my mom’s death five months ago. I have nothing against it. After all, my dad deserves to be happy. Just so you know, I’m a supportive son! But just yesterday, dad asked for a favor. He wanted me to join him for his date. In other words, he wants me to be a chaperone! I’m not sure yet of going with him, so I told him I’ll think about it first. All I want is for him to focus for that night without my presence. Which is better?

He's a full grown up. He should handle a date on his own. That's what I would say to him.
Or ... if you haven't done it already, simply ask him for his reasons asking you for this favor.
