I love these types of movies.
Quote:
A buddy film, according to The Complete Film Dictionary, is "a film that features the friendship of two males as the major relationship". Ira Konigsberg, author of the dictionary, further defines the genre: "Such films extol the virtues of male comradeship and relegate male-female relationships to a subsidiary position. Male relationships have always been a significant element in our popular culture, from the Leatherstocking Tales of James Fenimore Cooper to television beer commercials."
According to the Journal of Popular Film and Television, buddy films emerged in the 1970s in response to the feminist movement. The journal reported, "To punish women for their desire for equality, the buddy film pushes them out of the center of the narrative and replaces the traditional central romantic relationship between a man and a woman with a buddy relationship between two men. By making both protagonists men, the central issue of the film becomes the growth and development of their friendship. Women as potential love interests are thus eliminated from the narrative space."

Take that women.
I'll be honest, I dislike most romantic comedies. Some are perfectly fine, but they tend to all have the same patters.
With buddy films though, you have two totally different guys who get stuck in some sort of crazy or odd situation together and basically form a friendship because of it.
IE: The movie doesn't end or begin with sex as females are taken out of the equation in the sense or a relationship. I like this.
To me, it's quite refreshing to see movies like these as they show more of guys being guys without the complications of romantic or sexual relationships.
Also, because in my
biased opinion, women ruin everything and are the most back-stabbing creatures on the face of the planet.
You can read a good article about it here:
It's Still a Guy Thing [articles.latimes.com]
The best one I can think of is probably
The Odd Couple - not a terribly old movie, but kinda old, it even had a squeal when they were both much older. lol
I love that movie, it's so funny.
"The point: In buddy films, freed from confronting the sticky complexity of sex, men are allowed to debate the important things in life, like the easiest way to rob a bank."
Anyone?
