Default Relevant Movies

Since this site is all about helping teens with their issues and problems, I thought I'd make a thread where people can recommend movies that would be relevant to our users such as movies that deal with : mental health, depression, homophobia, abuse, addictions ect.

So feel free to post the title of any movie you think would be beneficial to any of the members on the site and - if you don't mind- post a little synopsis and why it's relevant.

Ki-duk Kim's movies always make me think of how silly it is to get mad/sad about problems.
I recommend "3-Iron", "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring" and "Time".

Girl, Interrupted

Plot: Susanna (Winona Ryder) is a young woman in the 1960s who enjoys drink and drugs, is undecided about her future and suffers from some sort of depression. After an "accidental" overdose, Susanna is sent away to a mental institute and is deemed to be crazy. Susanna, denies that she is disturbed until she forms a friendship with the charismatic Lisa (Angelina Jolie) and the group of mentally unstable girls. Although sometimes upbeat and inspiring, The movie is also dark and upsetting, in particular with the Character of Daisey; A sexually abused self harmer with an eating disorder. regardless of the dark tones and length, it's a fantastic movie and book that i recommend to anyone. Also it's a true story.

The only one I can think of right off head is Ordinary People. It's a drama, deals with death and depression if I remember correctly. It's been a while since I've seen it but it's really good.
But remember, it's a drama.

Shout, Shout, Let it all Out, These are the Things I Can do Without

Drugs

Trainspotting

Mark Renton (ewan mcgregor) is a heroine addict narrating about the events of his life and his junkie friends lives as they squat in a flat in Edinburgh. Darkly humorous and brutally truthful; Trainspotting is one of the most iconic and beloved British movies out there.

Requiem for a dream

Requiem for a dream is definitely not for the faint hearted. The movie tells the story of a junkie (Jared Leto ), His dealer friend (Marlon Wayans ) , His coke head girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly ) and his mother (Ellen Burstyn ) who is given uppers to help with weight loss. It's bleak, depressing and very disturbing. This movie should be shown to anyone who is even considering taking drugs as it will disgust and shock you.
