Okay, originally it was going to be China who invaded America but because the Chinese are so damn sensitive under 1 Million dollars are just to be spent going back and editing the movie to make it look like it's N. Korea.
Personally, I was miffed when I heard this. China is a much more believable enemy. LA Times Article
However considering I don't care for N. Korea, this doesn't really bother me to the extent that it should.
Anyway... I'm looking forward to this movie and hopefully it'll be released this year. I'm pretty sure the basic plot will be the same. Which is a bunch of teenagers fight the commies guerrilla warfare style. I mean really, how is that not cool?
Now, it was supposed to be released last year but was stuck in "limbo" due to some problems. And then the whole issue of China came up and it got pushed back again. *sigh*
Anyway, if you have not seen the original, it's actually pretty good and I really enjoyed it. I actually just watched it on a whim one morning a few years ago and what do ya know? I enjoyed it.
And that's why I'm excited for the remake (me? a remake? you're shocked I know). Point is, when it does come out I'm so going to go and see it and God willing, they won't fuck it up and make it another stupid movie where the supposed to be bad guys are actually shown to be decent fellows. Fuck no! I want a movie about unsympathetic bad guys who are cold-blooded homicidal dictatorial bastards who can and will rape and or molest innocent girls (this makes sense if you've seen the original)!
I'm watching you, movie. And if you suck and crash and burn my hopes for something wroth-while to see, I will review you and you do NOT want that.
So anyway, I'm excited! Red Dawn, everybody.
By the way, no trailer has been released yet so instead here's something from the original:
Shout, Shout, Let it all Out, These are the Things I Can do Without You Shouldn't Have to Jump for Joy, You Shouldn't Have to Shout for Joy
They Give You Life and in Return You Gave 'em Hell As Cold as Ice - No Bitch, You're Ice Ice Baby I Hope We Live to Tell the Tale, I Hope We Live to Shout the Tale
Will You Never Shout? And When You've Taken Down Your Guard... If I Could Change Your Mind, I'd Really Love to Break Your Heart! Come On Let Me Shout Shout Let Me, Come On Let Me Shout Shout!
original was great. classic.
But it also was because there was a much of communist haters back then!
Forgive the crappy grammar!

Okay... like that has anything to do with anything.
I'm just excited for this~ I hope they don't ruin it.

the only thing i see about this is when are they going to release it? No one really wants to back this up and get it out apparently. So the movie is just sitting there =/.
They gave the 11 date i think 2 years ago i think. So it is possible, but i doubt it will be as great as the original.

Having North Korea invade was my idea back when I first saw the original film when I was 13.
I liked the whole idea of the film and began to write my own script for a remake. I ended up writing two alternate versions.
The first one plays like the original, having Russia, Cuba, and Nicaragua invade, despite the Soviet Union having already collapsed. A political situation would occur to pave the way for the dissolving of NATO and give Russia a window to occupy several countries of interest.
I also retained some elements from the original: a downed USAF pilot assists the Wolverines, who in return try to help him cross the state border, and there is a helicopter attack sequence (using modern Mi-24V "Hind-E"s instead of the older Mi-24A "Hind-A"s depicted in the original, which are all long retired by now).
Some personal changes I like to note is my addition of stolen buggies to the Wolverines' action scenes and one of the main characters stealing an Mi-24 to attack a vital Russian base camp (a distraction to keep them from following the rest of the Wolverines' escaping to the state border towards the end).
The second version has the same plot as my first, except the enemy is changed completely to North Korea. The aircraft in the helicopter attack is changed only slightly: One Hind is still present, in N. Korean markings, but the rest are Mi-17 "Hip"s and imported WZ-9s. The buggies are changed to FAVs (Fast Attack Vehicles). The aircraft stolen at the end is a fully armed Mi-17 gunship.
I was ready to actually do something about one of these scripts, hoping to film it in my own home town... which I swear is a perfect setting. It's small with a decent amount of people and the surrounding hills and woodlands make it perfect for the scenes when the Wolverines' run for the hills.
Then I heard about the remake. All of my ideas were killed and I dropped the project for an Alien sequel instead. I saw some footage of the remake and it looks like it uses the SAME attack sequences as written in my scripts.
It better be at least close to the way I imagined making my own remake.

....But nothing from the remake has been released. No one knows what it's going to be like yet.
Why should it be close to how you imagined it? Just because you had the same idea doesn't mean it was your idea. I'm sure it'll be much more violent at least.

I saw it last year but I can't remember where I saw it. I was doing deep digging back then, visiting hundreds of sites to get a more in-depth look at how it will be done. I even saw a snapshot of a written scene in the script, which isn't much help since it could have been from the original. For now, I can only say Google will point you to several videos taken from the sets used in the remake, and behind-the-scenes shots of the action sequences.
The reason for hoping it will be at least close to my vision is the result of watching so many recent films... Poor acting, cheesy dialogue, bad direction (I'm fed up with shaky camera action and chase scenes!!!!), and overuse of CGI (I miss the good ol' films with REAL explosions and props). Of course there are a few of those rare jems, but honestly, there are only a few. And even those have their flaws, namely those I mentioned above.
Especially after watching films like Red and Transformers... and to see we're coming out with even more garbage as Skyline and Battle: Los Angeles? I've completely lost faith in all modern film-making.
I swear I'll make some good changes as soon as I put my foot in the door.
I have to, since many people are annoyed at my complaining. I know... no big surprise.
