Actually, it's 70 years in the future based in a place called Republic City where there's an anti-bender movement. Korra already knows Water, Fire, and Earth but needs to learn Air which Aang's son knows.
Actually, there's always going to be conflict. If peace remained then only one Avatar would bee needed. But there have been multiple, meaning that each Avatar has their own conflict to resolve.
Since the Avatar reincarnates, there cannot be two at the same time, just for the record.
...Yeah, I've seen this series about 5 times over. It won't suck just because new characters are involved. They'll be using some of the same VA's and there's rumored to be a lot of flashbacks in the new series.

I wanna ask where did the extra airbenders come from? From the original series ang is the last one, so did he just start teaching people how to do it and all?

According to the sites, there's only one Airbender left and that's Aang's and Katara's son, Tenzin. Though Tenzin has children (3 of them plus a 4th on the way) so it's probable at least one of them knows Airbending.
So yeah.
Toph also has a daughter as well. Haven't heard who the father is yet though.
But we don't know about the others yet.
