I like horror films and was strongly recommended this one. Has anyone seen all of it as I watched 5 minutes of it and felt quite ill at what I saw is it really as disturbing as people say it is?

Ah yes. The infamous august underground series. Now I don't usually seek out and watch exploitation/torture porn film so I don't have a whole lot to compare it to. But it's a pretty intense series. And quite disturbing too. The second film, August underground's mordem, is probably the most depraved and disturbing of the three. There were some pretty insane scenes (A necro scene comes to mind right away). It was more shocking and intense than a lot of films I have seen (I think it's more so than A serbian film). So if you like shocking and disturbing cinema than go see this one.

On another note, the other two in the series (August Underground and August underground's penance) aren't nearly as shocking, although they also have their moments. But if you like any of the three than I would recommend watching all of them. I personally didn't like any of them though.

Is it the type of film that could disturb someone for life? I've heard a lot of people say it was too much for them

I think it definitely has the potential too. I know people who couldn't make it through the first five to ten minutes. So It's definitely plenty disturbing.
