I get it. I think you're sensitive to the 'painfully gory' stuff. Actually, I ain't a gore-fan either. The amount of gore doesn't matter to me. But I find it less appealing when they use excessive gore. I usually hope for moderate amount of gore. But nowadays, many horror films are excessively gory although many of them are crap. Gore is not horror. And I hate the gore-without-real-horror films, not because I'm afraid, but because they're not my cup of tea.

Hey, it's OK if you can't stand the intense gore and fright. Don't force yourself to watch such stuff, especially if you dislike them. If you do, they'll affect you psychologically. They'll disturb all three states of your mind, which will also result in concentration problems while working. Guys like me have watched lots of horror movies (as we just LOVE them) and have thus developed a psychological immunity towards horror stuff. So I'm confident that I can stand intense horror and gore. But obviously don't watch anything that I don't like, for example, S.A.W., which is purely based on gore.
If you like horror and wanna watch something moderately scary without much gore, go for movies like "The Sixth Sense" and "Session 9".
