So, my thread had a li'l more activity lately Seeing the no. of Harry Potter fans, I expected Fantasy to recieve a good no. of votes (although I didn't vote for it myself), it's the lowest voted genre here. Comedy's always been at the top, but there are a lot of action and drama fans, I must say.
I didn't include those in the poll just because I wanted to target fiction and creative storylines.
Which is a good idea, mainly because those two forms inhabit distinctly different areas. They are almost mutually exclusive of each other. I can only name one or two filmmakers that can do both marvelously (Werner Herzog to name one). I mean the split has been there since the beginning. It just depends on if you liked Melies or Lumiere.
None, limiting yourself to your favoured genre can mean you go ignorant of the thousands of other brilliant films in other genres.
People who are only watching one sort of film fanatically help keep alive hidden gems within the genre. I know for a fact that Killer of Sheep would have been a lost film if it were not for the people who only watch african American cinema. And that would have been a shame seeing that it's such a brilliant film. There are so many other movies that are considered classics today that would have been lost forever if it weren't for fanatical fans of certain genres with great esoteric knowledge about the ins and outs of that particular form of the art.
