What are some good suggestions for a starter?

Well go with simple things to start off, like a pizza. Pizza's are simple and tasty!
Buy some cookbooks and learn some new recipies.

And then invite me for dinner

Buy a children's cook book
Cook toasties too, they are lush! I make toasties a lot xD So easy, it is untrue!

Buy a cook book and look for some ease recipes in net.

There are also recipes in the internet for sure. Choose something you like and that is simple enough for a starter. Invite friends to see the different opinions.

I started learning by doing it. I read the directions and followed, not everything worked out but I did learn and know how to cook a lot now.

It's really not that hard of a thing to learn. Just start doing it and you'll be good at it in no time at all.

Honestly, I found that the best way to learn how to cook was just to play around with what YOU think sounds good. Screw recipes.
The only time I've ever consulted a recipe of any kind was to get a guideline as to how long to cook meat, or the basic guideline for making a cream based soup.

I've found that anything pasta related is fairly simple, same with made-from-scratch soups.
Pretty much everything I've made has turned out awesome.
