Icon13 Holiday blues

Hi I've just turned 13.

I've got a problem with my parents. They don't trust me around the water at all. We're going away for a few days tomorrow and they've packed some armbands (inflatable things that go around arms) for me to wear.

I know how to swim and haven't worn armbands in years, but To be honest I haven't been swimming in years... Apparently I need to wear them whenever I'm going to be on the beach.

How do I avoid having to wear them?

And if I do have to wear them, how do I hide the tan lines from school?!

Just don't wear them. And furthermore, your wording is incorrect. Assuming that you haven't forgotten how to swim, you don't need that stuff. Cause, based on your prob description, your parents force you to wear these swimming aids.

Your parents may be really concerned about your safety, but they should realize that such aids are very embarrassing for a 13 yo guy.

Either you ignore the instructions of your parents, or you convince them that you are matue enough to be really concerned about your own safety. For example, by not swimming very far out to sea, always staying near the beach etc.

I don't know at which beach you are, but it's clear, in case of a shark attack these aids are of no use.

Maybe you start swimming at school or in your spare time, so you'll be fitter in the next vacation.

And as for the tan lines ... I assume that you don't wear these armband aids out off the water, because that would indeed make no sense.

But if you wear them alltime, no offense, your parents are either incredibly stupid, or it's likely that your thread is something fetish-like or nothing else to take seriously.

I agree with with Liam.

You're 13 not 3. If you've learned how to swim, then you don't need armbands. Ask your parents if they'll let you use a float/foam noodle/boogie board instead if they are adamant you have a swimming aid, because those aren't as embarrasing
