I have friends that consider wearing a bra and knickers the same as walking around in a bikini and therefore feel comfortable doing both whenever i'm around, yet there are those who say there is a huge difference.
As a guy, I will admit that I can't really comment, but from what I understand, the two things are made in the same shape, so what is the big deal between them??
I am not trying to be a massive pervert of anything and see a bunch of chicks in their underwear, I am just confused as to how there is such a major difference

It feels like wearing underwear out in public to me - hence why I don't wear bikini's.

A bikini covers the same amount of of skin as a bra and underwear (usually), so I don't really know why it's a big deal to see a girl in her underwear. It just is, I suppose. I think if the girl is walking around in her underwear with her guy friends around, that's a little different. You walk around in a bikini when you're going to go swimming. You walk around in your underwear with guys around to get attention. I don't think it would be the end of the world to see someone in their underwear, but I do think it's inappropriate to be walking around in it with your male friends there.
They are different lol. But sometimes you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Even some bra's these days look like a bikini top.
I personally would not go walking around with guy friends in my underwear. XD

Actually, they don't serve the same purpose. Bikini tops don't offer near the support bras do.
Bikini's are made for swimming, temporary wear. Whereas underwear you can wear long term if you desire but if you go swimming in it it's going to get uncomfortable eventually. Also holding a slightly higher risk of the girl having a wardrobe malfunction, because typical Bikini's cover in a different way so that you don't fall out of it.
Also I once heard of a girl who went swimming in her underwear, her panties got soaked with water and she got hit by a wave and her panties went to her knees. Bikini bottoms are meant to have a better hold. Then latter, this guy unhooked her bra and it fell off.
Of course, this can happen with Bikini's as well but generally speaking they have some extra type of tie to keep this from happening.
Just because it was modeled after underwear doesn't mean it is underwear.
