I dyed my hair light brown and to get a lighter color I have to mix it with peroxide as implied in the instructions. You can get a really light color that way, it depends on the amount of peroxide you use and it really works better than blanching before dyeing.
I buy it in a specialized store and that's how it's done in by professionals.

So if I want it to come out really dark, I don't have a problem?

I'm pretty sure you have to use it whether the desired color is light or dark. Anyway, you'd better go to a specialized store and ask someone there.

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely going to go ask a professional first. I wouldn't want something to go wrong and end up with green hair or whatever.
