it may come out darker than planned. like my hair is light brown. but i dye it red. if your hair is black, then you may not be able to see the color at all.
But if your hair is naturally light-ish, will it show at all, even if it's not quite the colour you're looking for?
yes. it will. if you hair is light brown, blonde, even just brown, it should show. but the darker your hair color, the darker the color will come out to be. the only reason you would wanna bleach your hair first is if it is dark or you want the dye to show really good.
It depends on what level your hair color is.
If it's light blond virgin hair, it will more than likely turn out pretty close to the color you want.
If it's a darker color, it will just turn a really dark version of what you wanted because color doesn't remove color.
That's why when you have previously dyed your hair, you MUST bleach it (or use a color stripper) to dye it lighter, even if it's just a lighter version of what you have(IE, going from dark brown to a light brown)

You don't really have to blanch it before dyeing, you have to mix it with hydrogen peroxide. Read the label, it'll explain the amount of hydrogen peroxide you gotta use to get the color you want.

If she's dyed her hair before, she has to bleach to go lighter because color doesn't remove color.
If she just mixes the dye with the peroxide, it won't do anything.
The only exception to this is if the color she wants is darker than what she has because the color will just be deposited in the cuticles on top of the previous dye.
