I don't have a bf, so I just wear them under my skirt. Down side is this: It's hard to pull down your underwear when you do to the bathroom.
I don't know types really. Just try to find one that's well made. If they still made them, I'd suggest metal clamps rather than rubber ones, because those slip much easier. However metal ones run the risk or tearing.
Of course, the primary use is just to look sexy. So it's hard to find one for practicality. Basically, they are made today to come off quickly (they don't stay on long if you know what I mean).
Of you want one for practical purposes, you'd have more luck getting a girdle (which shapes the body and hold up thigh-highs).
So yeah. I got my quality one at Dillard's but you can find them anywhere. Bring your own thigh-highs though.
