Default Attire for hosting an event?

What do you think is the appropriate dress code for anchoring a general event?

Bowtie/Tie?

Coat+Waistcoat/ Waistcoat?

Pants/Jeans?

Thank you.

When in doubt, overdress. That way, you can remove clothes as you see fit. I would go with tie, long sleeve dress shirt, slacks, and dress shoes. If the affair turns out to be fancy, then you're great. If its more casual then you though, you can always remove your coat and tie and roll up the sleeves on your shirt.

Black Casual Blazer, dark blue striped waistcoat, black pants, red tie, purple striped long sleeved shirt.

When things needed to get casual, I just lost the coat. Looked rad in the waistcoat. Although I ought to have rolled up my sleeves as suggested. :/
