Nasal septum piercings are less common than nostril piercings. The nasal septum is the cartilaginous dividing wall between the nostrils. Generally, the cartilage itself is not pierced, but rather the small gap between the cartilage and the bottom of the nose (sometimes called the "sweet spot"), typically at 14ga (1.6mm) although it is often stretched to a larger gauge (size). The nose has many nerves running through it and as a result, nose piercings can be painful, although it varies by individual. This piercing heals within a month and a half to three months also depending on the individual.

Honestly, I guess it's one of the only piercings I would dare ... to consider doing. But idk, it's just so 'used' already that I wouldn't feel that original afterall (someday, not having piercings will be original, just wait). Anyway, I like the fact that the pierce/hole wouldn't be visible if the jewelry was taken out.
(a septum piercing is the nose one, not the one on the upper lip)
For septum piercings, I honestly just like those kind of jewelry, with the little ball in each end. Any other makes me think of a cow. (I specially dislike when they're black by the way).

I'd imagine it'd hurt like a bitch. And you can't worry about originality, there really is not much space for any when it comes to piercings unless you want to pierce some unconventional body parts like your fingers or something; if that's even safe/possible. So whatever you decide to get is already going to be 'overused' as you said.
Would never consider it myself. I hate piercings like that . The only piercing I can tolerate on a girl are tiny studs, and only in certain spots haha. And I definitely have 0 tolerance for guys with piercings.
