Default "No Homo"

I always hear that phrase around my school.
To be honest, I find it unnecessary, the fact that people have to advertise "no homo" this or that in order to prove that their sexual orientation is straight...

Is it just me hearing that phrase?

I find it offensive, but then again i can't speak for the gay/lesbian/bi community.
It's all over the place, i try my best to ignore it.

And yet, those same bi/gay/etc people say oh my god all the time and don't care that it offends me. Not only does it offend me but it basically offends every religious person in the world, where as no homo or gay only offends the gay community.

Kate, you're missing the point. Religion, for the most part, is accepted. You don't lose voting rights, happiness, insurance benefits, a possible child and other things when someone says "Oh my gawd!" Like, the gay/lesbian/bi/transsexual community is finally starting to rise from the depths of nothing but hatred.

Does the term offend me? No. But if it offends other people, why use it?

So...? it doesn't matter how accepted it is or not, it's the fact of what your saying is offensive or not. And, saying "that's gay!" is just as offensive to some as "Oh my god!" to others.

In general, in the modern day, "That's gay!" is more offensive then "Oh my G-d!". You can never permanently eradicate negative connotations from a lot of phrases. Overall, more people take offense to the insults of homosexuality (questioning someone's sexual orientation) versus using two religions deity's name in vain.

I'm also sort of religious, Kate. But in the present day, this is what it boils down to.

Kay well I don't really give a damn what the modern day is like, it can change all it wants but I'm not going to stop being offended to something because everyone else uses it like it's no big deal, but yet if i say something just as bad (imo so don't go off on me,) they kill me.

Obviously we disagree, but please do not tell me I'm wrong and that this is how it should be, if we disagree, great, that's fine. But don't talk to me like I'm completely wrong.

So if I walk up to you and say "Christ was a flaming homo!" that would be offensive to you, right?

How is that any difference if I refer to some random guy as a "fucking cocksucking fudgepacker."

Both are very offensive to certain demographics, yes. However, since "No homo" is far more socially unacceptable, it is more scrutinized. Hence, "No homo" holds more of a negative connotation then "Oh my G-d!".

EDIT: This post was not to offend whatsoever. It was to make a point.

They're both offensive, and I use gay in ways I shouldn't, so I then don't go around to people complaining about them saying "oh my god" because that's offensive to me. So, then I really hate when people who say oh my god all the time go around preaching to not say gay or no homo. This is not to the OP or anything at all, i have no idea if you say oh my god or if you do whatever, i don't care.

but whatever, we disagree jared we can leave it at that. I'm not in the mood tonight.
