Icon27 Learning Guitar

Okay, so I've decided I REALLY want to learn guitar, so my mum said she'll pay for me to have lessons etc. I can't wait, it's the only thing I've EVER wanted to do. But anyways, I was wondering, do you guys have any tips for playing one? Bareing in mind, I've never really used one before now >_<

if using electric guitar use thinner string gauges to start with .10's or .09s, anything thicker will kill your fingers, acoustic strings are nylon rather than steel, so don't hurt as much, but electrics have a lower action (strings closer to fret board) so are easier to press down. don't go for the cheapest one, cheap guitars tend to go out of tune a lot, aqim for 100-300 (acoustic) and 200-400 for electric.

Dont even try to learn unless you have an honest dedication and love for the guitar and/or music. Otherwise youll get disenchanted with it when you realize that you cant just pick one up and start shredding. Practice makes perfect, so make sure you can devote the time it takes to make it worthwhile.

Exactly. It can be a right bitch sometimes if you are not a "prodigy" or anything. There's such a degree of natural develepmont over time involved when learning guitar. You have to be able to stick with it.

It's one of the things you're either good at or you aren't.

But don't give up, even if the first 10 lessons seem boring/hard.

Pick a song that isnt THAT hard (no van halen or solos please) that you want to learn. Kick some ass to learn it so you have a goal ;D

PS Tabs help for short term learning, but make sure you understand the music theory under it!!1

I really wanna learn acoustic, because acoustic music is one of my favourites. I'll dedicate my time to it because its the only thing I've ever really wanted to achieve. I don't expect to have learnt anything until the end of next year atleast, but I really want to do it and I was on my friends guitar the other day and it just felt amazing
