And even if they weren't metal, I'd still like them.
I don't think they're bad for not being Metal, but the thing is, "Industrial Metal" is not really part of the Metal umbrella. It's the same reason Nu-Metal is not part of Metal, either. It's just not associated by the community at large.
Trust me, I've gone through this discussion a lot on Metal forums. There's more to being considered Metal than having heavily distorted guitar parts with palm-muting.
I don't think that industrial metal is metal, or nu metal for that matter, since these genres are about detuning and palm muting rather than the branching into a newer realm of enhancing playing ability. Now groove metal is different from Nu metal, but some uneducated would call these the same.
I often don't have a rhyme or reason, only a rhythm.
Metal has nothing to do with branching into a newer realm of enhancing playing ability. There's just a cultural and thematic aspect that separates it from things that people on the outside would call Metal.
Seriously, lots of Black Metal bands are hardly branching into a new realm of enhancing playing ability, but they're still Metal.
This is Metal, but it's hardly inventive at all. Nothing about it really transcends any kind of convention or established standard of theme or playing ability.
Metal core is my style. Bullet For My Valentine, As I Lay Dying, Motionless In White, All That Remains, Avenged Sevenfold, Parkway Drive, etc.
I also listen to a few post-hardcore bands, but only if they have a unique sound. To me, 90% of post-hardcore bands sound the exact same. I listen to A Skylit Drive (great high pitch range in clean vocals), We Came As Romans (the screams sound different to me for some reason, and the clean vocals send a shiver down my spine. Sadly, out of the 3 times I've seen them live, Kyle (clean vocals) could not sing for the life of him), For All Those Sleeping (they have three vocalists : fry screams, growls, and clean), Falling In Reverse (I'm always been a fan of Ronnie's vocals), etc.
Lastly, there is one of my all time favorite bands, which isn't completely metal, more pop metal I guess. I don't know, I'm not all for labels, music is music. Anyway, they are Dead By April. Amazing vocals, fry screams and clean.
