Led Zep used electronic organs, those have computers in them.

Very primitive ones, closer related to a primitive form of technology.

I often don't have a rhyme or reason, only a rhythm.

Primitive electrical circuits...bit of an oxymoron.

Electricity is quite complex.

Music has needed a medium to be played since man first started composing.

If a medium has an electrical component, it is no less of an instrument in my mind.

I do really think that distortion is amazing, guitarists and all others are still creating music, not studio generated crap, stuff that they put together by mastering their crafts.
Well "studio generated crap" is still created, and requires creativity and skill. To me at least, music is broadly defined. If a composition of sound is appealing to people then I would consider it music. In theory, instruments are simply vessels through which music is created. In a way, a computer and a guitar accomplish the same thing. At least from my stand point.

Edit: Wow, I pretty much just said what Nobartholem said.

Yes, the guitar and computer may be mediums, but I don't think the computer could ever achieve what a human can on the actual guitar.

Well maybe not, but in the end, no matter what degree of technology is used to enhance it, music is still music, which is what you initially set out to say regarding distortion.
