Default Why can't people answer the question?

More of an irritation than anything.

I'm trying to gather more info on what type of dog I wanna go for if I'm able to - after all I need something to use to convince my dad to let me get a dog.

I need a low energy dog. Of course, I could handle a high energy puppy so long as the odds of them growing out of it were higher according to the breed as a whole. Of course every dog is different, but there are reason for breed temperaments.

So I ask a simple question and people being all know-it-all kept saying get an older dog or a cat. Can't get a cat, my dad fucking hates them after my mom brought this one home once, named Sylvester - which was appropriate. My dad would forbid an older dog because they are more likely to die sooner - that's exactly one reason why he wouldn't let me and my sister get a dog when we were kids.

Yes, I'll be the main caretaker. That's the rule. I'm home all damn day after all.

Because of me being drained of energy most of the time, I need a more low-energy dog. For Christ's sake, I never said anything about not taking it out for exercise!
Then one bitch has the nerve to call my dad a jerk even though he's just trying to look after my well-being. He doesn't want a dog I get attached to dying so soon after all.

=_=

People can't answer a damn question these days. Know-it-all smart asses.
I clearly explain that I'm doing research and I need a dog that would more suit the way I live. For the love of God, there are some dogs out there who are really lazy! That's what I want, I need a lazy dog.
Preferably one that doesn't have many medical issues that would be a major problem - like Basset Hounds having back problems.

There are rules I have to abide by if I want a dog, believe me - I don't want these rules either, but I'll do anything to get a dog. Even if it means going by my dad's strict rules.

Also not to mention, I'm fucking lonely and want some company. Ass holes.

Well, in my personal opinion, you can't just get a lazy dog, some dogs just become lazy.. Like my Labrador, she was very energetic when ahe was young, but now, all she does is sleep, eat, and bark at frogs.. Don't ask.. You can get a German Shephard and just train it to be silent, and not get all jumpy, a lot of people I know have Alsations who are trained to be silent and still most of the time,

*sigh*
There are certain breeds that are couch potatoes - that's what I meant by lazy.

I'm familiar with many low-energy dogs being that I interned at a veterinary office for two summers. Does it matter to you what size the dog is or anything else about it (anxiety levels, et cetera) other than it being low-energy and healthy?

Oh, dog lover here, I adore dogs!

Good for you for not only wanting a canine companion, but also wanting to make a selection intelligently by choosing a breed that fits your lifestyle! Too many people use an entirely inappropriate selection process and when the adorable puppy they got grows up, they can't tolerate what they've got. That's unfair to you, and the dog. But mostly the dog, who cannot help who they are.

OK, first I'd recommend you go out and get a couple of those "Guide to dog breed" books, they're filled with pics and descriptions. Then, I'd recommend you go to a local dog show or two (goooogle AKC Dog Shows in your area, they're all over and all the time). Meet the dogs, and their breeders, and when you're ready, dog shows are great places to meet breeders.

I have a Vizsla, which is a hunting/sporting dog, who I adore to pieces and cannot imagine life without him. But, he's very active and very demanding and very intense and wickedly smart, it's a perfect match for me.

My second favorite dog, but alas, not fitting my lifestyle (but sounds like yours) are Daschunds. They are smart, sweet, and very personable. Yet, they aren't high maintenance nor are they high energy. And FWIW, very easy on the eyes and a real crowd pleaser.

Just stay away from Sporting/Hunting dogs (high energy) and terriers, they're too energetic, too.

Just to clarify, there's no particular breed or temperament that manifests laziness as such - even a companion dog requires both mental and physical stimulation.
Although I do get where you're coming from and wasn't ignoring the comments you made.

Any dog will need at least a 30 minute walk daily, and if that's alright for you, that's probably the closest you'll get to 'laziness'.
Dogs that aren't often exercised tend to need mental stimulation in order to prevent boredom, though, even if it's just to prevent unwanted behaviours such as chewing and digging that evolve from it. If time's not a factor for you, great, there are breeds that will suit you and your lifestyle.

Avoid herding, sporting, hound, terrier and working breeds. They're all typically high-energy and -maintenance

Have you heard of the Bolognese? It's similar to the Bichon Frisé in appearance, and has very few associated genetic health problems. They're good with kids and other animals, and are trainable and playful despite being pretty laidback. They cope well in smaller spaces (apartments, for e.g.) and their coat doesn't shed too much, although it does need semi-regular brushing to prevent matts.

The Japanese Chin/Spaniel is another good option. It's a sociable, mild-mannered lap dog with a short muzzle, which encourages less rather than more exercise in case it develops breathing problems.

The Greyhound is, surprisingly, a lazier breed of dog. They're quiet and sensitive, but don't require much space despite their leggy appearance. They just need somewhere comfortable to sleep (for their health and preference) but generally can't live with other small animals because of their prey drive.

Some people say the Great Dane, but opinions differ hugely with dog-savvy people. I know a girl that competes in agility with hers so it's presumanly high-energy and motivated, but another lady lives nearby with 2 and they're really chilled out.

Oh, Greyhounds are a great choice! And, you can do a good deed by rescuing one from those dreadful racing lives they led. If you want a smaller dog, the miniature greyhound, aka the Italian Greyhound is a good choice, and it's 'cousin' the whippet. Sweet, intelligent, fairly calm.
