Default Hypocrites.

Yes, I'm Christian. But I don't go around calling all atheists "nonbelievers" and "enemies of Christ" and "heretics". So why is it okay for atheists to call me "stupid", "anti-human", "fundamentalist", "terrorist" and other such rude names? I do not go around telling you you should be ashamed to have abandoned God or to have lost belief in him, so why is it okay for you to tell me I should be ashamed in believing in a religion and that me being religious is causing the deprecation of the world?

It amazes me how hypocritical and selfish people can be. There are so many people who are ready to jump at my throat for being Christian, when I myself have never criticised any person for being atheist. I know so many Christians who are open-minded and open-hearted and accept atheists for who they are, instead of insulting them and calling them names. But if an atheist does such things, he's regarded as intelligent, because he believes in "science" and therefore trumps everyone else's beliefs, regardless of the other people's feelings or thoughts. It blows my mind.

I'd like to know why it's alright for atheists to attack me and humiliate me for believing in a higher power, while it's downright rude, uncalled for and inhumane to criticise someone for not believing in a higher power. When did this become okay? Please, I'd love to know.

It's not at all.
You should be content with your own beliefs - it's important to have something in which you can rely on. And it's great you don't have the same attitude.
Problem isn't in you, but in others. I know how it can be so irritating, but it's something every believer goes through I think.

It's not OK for an unprovoked attack, but I certainly have experienced people trying to convert me to their beliefs when I have shown no interest in them, especially Mormons, so you have to expect some kind of retaliation if you do that, and I'm always up for a good debate.

Because there are a lot of Atheists who just assume every Christian is a preachy Bible-bashing asshole. You may not even say anything, but they'll assume you're thinking it.
Some Christians out there do the same thing to people of other beliefs and that's the justification a lot of Atheists use. It doesn't have to be YOU who started it, the fact that you believe is justification enough for them.

If they've ever run into a Christian who does what you described then by default all Christians, or anyone believing in a higher power, is crazy and is just like the aforementioned person.

It's the belief that you should attack before you get attacked. Not only that but flat out arrogance. A lot of Atheists look down on believers for a variety of reasons (like what you mentioned) therefore the rationale is that we're idiots so they're allowed to talk like that to us. But if we talk that way to them we're just delusional and bitter and not "Christian" enough. Which is stupid, I might add.

It's like, for example, you wouldn't treat worm the same as a human, would you? Those sorts of people see themselves as intellectually "above" us and discredit us and bash us just because we're Christians.
Like this one time, I ran into this guy online and I agreed with everything he said about a subject - he looks at my profile and it says I'm a Christian and he takes what I said and spins it like I was attacking him... even though religion or anything was a part of the topic. And I agreed with what he was saying too.
Meanwhile someone who said they were Agnostic (on their profile) said pretty much the exact same thing as me and he was all sweet to them about it.

Some view us as lesser beings for whatever reason.

I've seen people of all faiths, and lack thereof, going after others. Honestly though, I see way more Atheists doing it these days. Probably because they assume Christians think they're better than anyone else and the thought alone bothers them.

Do I know why they do it? No. I'm not that stupid. I don't bash what other people believe in. I was raised to never do that. Ever.
Why? Because it's none of my business what you're personal beliefs are. It doesn't make you any better or worse than anyone else. I mean just check out the "Acceptable Religious Targets" page on TV Tropes. It explains so well. People assume that we're crazy because of the crazy minority of religious people.

Like you know how some people hate/dislike Muslims because of Muslim terrorists? It's like a less-extreme example of that. A crazy minority doesn't mean they're all batshit insane.
But the crazies stand out more.

Also in a lot of movies and TV shows, Christians are generally portrayed as the antagonist. The only one I can think of right off hand that wasn't like that was Grace from Secret Life and they more or less knew what they were doing considering she had no friends, no one really liked her all that much. Why? Because she was so religious. But she was kind hearted and caring as was really trying to help others.
Eventually they went and fucked this all up because she was actually a good character. Then her and her polar opposite (Adrian) practically did a reversal and it all went to hell. Still, the way she was before was an example of anyone openly religious being disliked - no matter how nice they may be.

Personally speaking, i get it a lot. But for another reason as well. Because I'm a Southern Baptist everyone treats me like I think slavery should still be legal (which is bullshit if you know anything about the Civil War) and shit like that. I'm a double "acceptable target".

You can't reason with people like that. Simple fact is Atheism is a minority and like all minorities, it's considered bad to insult them. What logic is that? I don't know, I already said I'm not that stupid.
