However, as if fate resolved on depriving the prisoners of
their last chance, and making them understand that they were
condemned to perpetual imprisonment, a new misfortune befell
them; the gallery on the sea side, which had long been in
ruins, was rebuilt. They had repaired it completely, and
stopped up with vast masses of stone the hole Dantes had
partly filled in. But for this precaution, which, it will be
remembered, the abbe had made to Edmond, the misfortune
would have been still greater, for their attempt to escape
would have been detected, and they would undoubtedly have
been separated. Thus a new, a stronger, and more inexorable
barrier was interposed to cut off the realization of their
hopes.
That is a passage from "The Count of Monte Cristo", my summer reading. The story is marvelous, and the book is marvelous, but what keeps me turning pages is the dialogue and the wording of the book. The language itself fascinates me, so much so that i've actually been starting to talk and write like that. I've gotten quite good at it. For example:
instead of talking about how pissed you were when that bitch Kay stole your seat at the show, you could say.
I've been quite aggravated at the behavior of Mr. Thompson's daughter, Katherine. I'm not exactly certain of the doings in that household but i know for certain my daughter would never be permitted to take the seat of someone at such an expensive event as a show. Perhaps asking me would have been a better ploy to confront and ask me to switch seats if she was unhappy or dissatisfied with her seat. I would have been more than grateful to make her acquaintance.
This is just a rant (the good kind)
of HOW AWESOME FANCY ENLIGH IS! I'mma rant in it and post in it some more
OMG OMG OMG I read that book years ago and i'm reading it again. I started last week. :o I think it's one of the best books i've ever read. Not watching the movie, though, it would kill my imagination throw the reading.
Most certainly, Kirk. But i must let you know it is not an easy task to learn or teach.
1. The phrasing of the sentence is key to it's understanding as being fancy. Structure is of paramount importance.
2. Prepositions are very important also. What sounds fancier, the last sentence, for example.
Structure is paramount.
OR
Structure is of paramount importance.
Quite obviously the second.
3. There are certain words that belonged to the dialogue of the day. Learn them.
Such words as morrow, mad (not as in angry, as in crazy), and others that I can't be bothered to think of.
4. Adjectives and sentence breaks. Take breaks in your sentences to further explain or make redundant a sentence (such as this). Use lots of fancy adjectives, but not to a point where it becomes obviously of your intention to try to sound fancy.
ex: Mary, the Baron's daughter, is quite an exceptionally beautiful maiden, who if matched with an identical angel would often be mistaken for the angel. Nothing of this Earth could be compared, successfully of course, to the visual brilliance of the Baron's daughter Mary.
"A toothache, or a violent passion, is not necessarily diminished by our knowledge of its causes, its character, its importance or insignificance".- T.S. Eliot
I am quite fond of fanciful English, it is my favorite type of English to use in my daily speech and conversations actually. Although I am not quite good at it (not good at all), I still try to make it fancy, it attributes a certain glamour and lust to the text and the saying itself.
"If I do good, people might accuse me of selfish, ulterior motives, but I will still do it. Because I believe no one is malicious, not in their core, in their raw being.
The best in them is clouded by sorrows and fears, take those away and you'll bring out the brightest of lights in them.
Because no one can be happy without being kind, without giving ourselves to another, and we all love to give ourselves, it is our true nature.
That is why, even if I might get disappointed, I'll always give the best I've got. A single candle can light a thousand others and still burn." - Skezra
Eh. I've never been good at regular english. Fancy English is way out of my league.
This. Ditto. Though you have reason, I'm just stupid xD
Little white flowers will never awaken you, not when the cold depths have all but overtaken you.
Dearest, The days are all so long,
and in the shadows I spend them all.
My heart and I long for slumber.
Slumber I'm caressing you, I bless your touch, I lust for you.
Slumber you are not a dream, Not as much as you seem.

Aye kate, comprehension of the fancy english is to be left only to masterful wordsmiths of the best kind. I'm not surprised that many people here cannot speak or use the words i speak
