Default Do Not Want!

Okay, I want Spice & Wolf season 2. It's coming out this month and I want it. I want it bad.
What I don't want is the Blu-ray copy. It comes ONLY in a fucking combo pack.

I don't like Combos, I have no desire to use them. I'm the only one in my house who watches Anime. No one else does. We have a PS3 that plays Blu-rays but DVD quality is already in HD so I have no desire for a more expensive Blu-ray disk when the DVD HD quality is already perfectly fine... and cheaper.

I simply have no use for a Blu-ray copy. I have no desire to ever upgrade to Blu-ray (with Anime) if the DVD quality remains as good as it already is.
I've never noticed any really difference between the quality. It just so happens, one is bigger and to me that makes no difference when watching in on a TV. No on our big screen the quality difference is very noticeable. But odds are I won't be watching it on that.

People with kids like the combo, people who wanna bring copies over love combos. Like the inverse of the norm happens all the time here where my cousin will buy combos and bring the Blu-ray copy over here to watch while he watches the DVD copy at his house.

However I won't ever be doing this. None of my friends have Blu-ray players, but I do (PS3) except it's not really mine, it's my parents.

I have no interest in Blu-ray only covers for a series. Or the fact that the Combos are wider and take up more space. Or any extras on the combos. Same reason I don't go out of my way to buy LE unless it's worth it. Collectible coins? Not worth it. Special LE bandannas? Worth it. But even with the latter, those were still DVD only copies.

Point is, while some may want to upgrade in the future. A lot don't because of the cost. DVDs are cheaper and you still get kick-ass quality with most Anime today. Now, go back a few years where everything was Fullscreen and then I can see wanting to upgrade - but most of those don't have Blu-ray disks because they came out so long ago.
Plus with English releases of Anime you can only get Blu-ray if the Blu-ray copies were also produced in Japan. Because they send over DVD and Blu-ray copies to be used as material for Dubbing.
Although sometimes the English companies will upgrade without a blu-ray disk as material.

Anyway, point is that it's more of a profit if you market to the common denominator, which is DVD. Most people still have DVD players and not Blu-ray. Some who want to upgrade, these combos are good for. But there are also a lot of people, like myself, who buy Anime they've never really seen and don't wanna have to pay the extra money for a Blu-ray copy on the off-chance we don't like it.
Also a lot of people, like myself, simply have no interest in an upgrade because the DVD quality is already good enough plus the price. If the DVD quality was worse, that might give us motivation to upgrade. But it's not like that. So DVD quality works fine for people like me.

So if they wanna have combos, fine, but producing DVD only or Blu-ray (mostly to former) copies would prove to be more profitable because there are a lot of people who can't afford an upgrade and just paid for Blu-rays that they will never ever use and can't even sell because they couldn't sell the cases along with it (most like having the covers).
And then there are those who don't want to upgrade and still can't sell the Blu-ray copies and be damned if you just give them away! Who the fuck gives Blu-ray copies away?

Long story short, if people want combos then I'm not against them but there are people out there who would rather stick to illegal downloading on the English versions or wait for them to air on TV rather than go get the Combo. Because it's cheaper and you won't have perfectly good Blu-rays wasting away, never to be used.

Of course then there's the inverse. People who want to upgrade, then never use the DVD copies after that. DVDs can be sold easier than Blu-rays can. Simply because any hardcore DVD Anime collector is gonna want both covers or just the Blu-ray ones. Why? Because that's just better. Because DVDs are more common, therefore less special.
Anyway, but those can be sold again like in garage sales.

Point is, some people don't want both. They have no need for them. If you have kids and only one Blu-ray player, that's different. But some people only want DVD copies or Blu-ray copies. So why have the ONLY version of the English release be a Combo? It can make people simply not want to buy it because of the cost. It's stupid.
However, this decision probably came from the surveys which would show more people wanted this. Which I personally never got. I never saw the point in upgrading Anime because the quality is already good.

Still, DVDs are cheaper to make so you could have more sales by offering the Combo and the DVD versions.

That being said, I'll probably watch the first two or one legal episodes online and then either wait for it to come on TV or wait a few weeks for a torrent to come out and download them.
I don't give a damn about legality. I can't afford a combo esp. since I already pre-ordered Hetalia: Paint It, White and Trigun: Badlands Rumble. Both DVD-only, I might add.

Granted the Combo for S&W2 is cheaper on Amazon but the fact remains I'll have a useless Blu-ray copy on my hands because odds are I'll never get my own Blu-ray player until... well, until the new thing comes out that's better than a Blu-ray. Whatever the hell that may be.
Because it always happens. As soon as I'm old enough to pick out my own cassette tapes, CDs come out. As soon as I start picking out my own CDs, MP3s some out. As soon as i get an MP3 player, iPods come out. As soon as I get an iPod, a bunch of other shit comes out.
Same can be said for VHS tapes. As soon as I pick my own stuff out, DVDs become the most popular.

Plus Blu-rays are much more of a hassle. Our old one was an older version and had to be updated a lot. Our PS3 is better but you still have to go through bullshit before you get to anything. Meanwhile, pop a DVD in and it plays on the DVD player. Sucks we don't have a DVD remote.

I'm just aggravated. I don't like downloading shit illegally but my pockets are not that deep. I can't afford a combo. I just can't. I have loads of blank DVDs and a DVD burner. It's cheaper.
