I hate it when people say, "It could be worse." Anything could be worse. There is no one whose life couldn't be worse. Name anybody in existence and something could occur to make their life worse. They could get struck by lightning or hit by a bus or put in jail or struck by lightning during a bus crash on their way to jail.
During a vacation extremely late at night (I hadn't had any sleep due to an assortment of plane rides) my family couldn't find our hotel or a place to eat so we were pretty much screwed. We had nowhere to go at all. I started complaining and my Mom yelled at me that I should be grateful I wasn't in the Holocaust, which was very bothersome.
Though I still say it to myself... Actually makes me feel more grateful and better. I guess it depends what situation you're in. If you got struck by lightening or something, I think it's a horrible thing to say.
Meh, it's just a saying. It's more like, "be thankful it's just this and not something worse". Like, you know, dying for example. At least you're alive and have a car.
