Re: 2012 Approaches..
A valid rant.
However, I strongly disagree with its premise. Humanity has made strides to correct its perceived misdoings. I'll use the United States as an example, since I am most familiar with its history.
- Civil Rights
- Women's Rights
- Progressively giving more rights to same-sex couples.
We're all humans after all and you cannot expect the human race to cleanse itself of its follies overnight. Substantive change requires time. And for the record, you can't even begin to make such a statement as "wait until the older people die off for it to go away". That's complete bullshit.
That's a scapegoat type of argument through and through. Instead the proper question, or mindset, would be to look at yourself and your generation and see how you can make the difference. We always complain about what's wrong with the world - well do something about it. Stop blaming your grandparents generation.
Also, stop being ignorant of others beliefs. That by far is the most hypocritical thing I encounter. I have my beliefs, my faith. Stop calling me ignorant for thinking what I think. You can't expect me to accept what you believe and live by - if you can't begin to accept mine.
The world is progressing at its own pace. Humanity has come such a long way. And, as we studied in one of my psych classes this morning... Truly the percentage of homosexuals in the United States is significantly smaller than we think. But, its their ability and the voice they have developed that makes them prominent. My point? Find a voice and communicate an effective message; be the change you wish to see; encourage others to do the same. Then we'll start to see the change happen in the world.
It's going to require more than our grandparents dying. Because, lets face it, everyone is brought up within the context of their culture and heritage. They are brought up into the truths of the religions they adhere too, they are brought up into the truths of their parents teachings. We must first earn the right to be heard by people; before they'll consider questioning those things. And we don't earn that right by blasting them as ignorant.
