Don't get me wrong, I love my brother to absolute pieces and about 99% of the time we get on and don't argue. But he's really crossed the line now, you would think he's 12 or something.
My brother, he spends money like its water or something. He always ask for more, like every day, off my parents and it does my head in. Like we are supposed to get the same amount every month- half in our savings, and half in the current account- and he never has anything in either of the accounts. All he really spends it on is alcohol or ridiculous things and it just pisses me off. And it's not even cause he gets more than me, I really don't care about that, but it's wasting my parents money beyond belief. Then has the cheek to ask for more.
I have saved up like loads over the years, and he just doesn't give a shit about what he has now and how he's going to get money in the future, he's had one job and lasted about a month when he was 14. He actually doesn't understand the value of money. It is like he genuinely thinks it grows on trees!
So I'm not going to lie, we're pretty well off. We usually get the things we want, and I really appriciate that so much, but my brother just takes everything for granted. It's like he has no respect for my parents whatsoever.
He walks into my room about half an hour ago and he asks me if he can borrow some money because he doesn't want to ask our parents for more money- when all he will do to pay me back is get money of my parents and give it to me. Does he really think I'm that thick!? I decided to have a bit of a rant at him and I was like: 'Do you understand how much money you actually fucking spend? You spend it on shit all and have no respect at all. We were buying mam Birthday presents for today, yet you decide to spend your last tenner on Vodka. Fucking great son you are.' and all he replied was 'Who are you to fucking judge? They don't ask about how its spent or complain so I can do whatever I want.' Psht, he clearly doesn't know our parents well enough.
GR. Just really annoyed right now. I mean he is 17 and just doesn't understand the value of money.
So, apologies about the long rant. Already vented to Rhiannon but here I can vent more.
He'll understand one day when there's something he really wants and he doesn't have the money to get it. My brother was the same and that's how he realized.
You've told him once already, it's his choice if he does or doesn't listen to you.
I think it's just an older sibling thing. An "I don't have to listen to you, you're younger than me" kinda thing.
He should really know a bit better at his age, but I guess that it's just something he's got to learn and find out for himself.
One day your parents will turn round and say no to him. Don't worry, he'll see where you're coming from eventually.

Ah yeah I suppose, he always thinks I'm so much younger than I am and thinks thats a reason why he shouldn't listen to me. Meh, at least he's going to be the worse off one... I really shouldn't worry about it myself, it doesn't affect me at all.
I understand why you're worried about him, I'm always worried about my brother and he's 19, almost 20!
Don't let it get to you too much though, he'll realize one day that money doesn't grow on trees and that he'd better start saving if he wants a car or anything
Yikes - that's a "fun" situation. He'll learn eventually but it'll probably be an unfortunate experience when it finally hits him. In the mean time, yeah I'd stop giving him money...

Haha just kidding. This is pretty normal honestly. Especially for teenage guys. I'm exactly the same; I don't feel good about it, but I do it anyway.
He's going to learn soon enough, just give him time haha
