Well, no, I don't really but I've been getting comments about it recently.
ll thanks to one of my favorite shows, House. In it Wilson is seeing a clinic patient with a bladder infection, he suggests she might be pregnant and she say's that's not possible implying she doesn't have sex because she's Asexual.
As it turns out she's not Asexual, her husband is. But she loves him so she lies about being Asexual to be with him (if I recall correctly). Anyway, Wilson believes it's a valid orientation but, of course, House does not. And we all know House can never be wrong!
So anyway it ends up being a brain tumor in the husband. House and Wilson made a bet beforehand and of course House wins... it's a medical condition, blah blah.
So turns out that was the reason I kept getting those comments. I had no idea where they were coming from as I hadn't seen the episode yet. But I'm watching it now and when I heard Asexuality mentioned I got online and looked it up. Turns out people were highly displeased at this episode.
The writer for this episode originally wanted it to be different, showing it as a valid orientation. But the higher ups wanted House to be right since it's a medical mystery show. There's gotta be a cause for everything.
Now, remember what I said about people using Google in my last rant? Yeah, the writer of the show mentioned that, her intention was to get it out there, so people could use Google to find out more...
Yeah, well, people are stupid. They're not gonna look it up, they're gonna believe Asexuality is the result of a medical condition.
I get the good intentions of the writer and I'm thankful for that much. And I appreciate the research she put into it. And hey, maybe some intelligent people who are ignorant about Asexuality WILL go and look it up. Problem is, most people are just going to assume it's the result of something medical and can be fixed by removing a tumor from your brain.
But, yeah, I don't have a brain tumor. People need to stop suggesting such all because of an episode of House.

House isn't even the main point, it could have been any show. But considering 9 million people tuned in to watch that episode when it came on and they all got false information.
Yeah, it pisses me off. I'd rather have no publicity and false publicity! Not to mention the husband came off as being an elitist jerk in the end.
Everything after House stating it was a medical condition just bothered me about that plot line. The other half of the story was fine.
