Listen, who knows what his motivation is, asking us won't answer that, only asking him will. Something direct, to the point, like : "Why are you telling me all this?" or perhaps the even more direct "Are these statements directed at me"?. Maybe even the MOST direct: "Are you asking me out?".
When someone says something that is vague or ambiguous, yet provocative in some way (because we want to think it's about us), the best thing to do is directly address it with them.
