so there is this guy and he has be in an on and off relationship with this other girl and over the past year we have been talking on and off and we have tried to get together a few times but never really worked out and we haven't talked in a long time and im not sure if i should text him or just let him go and move on with my life

If you two meet , just notice what he acts to you and try to figure out if he still likes you or not.
But if you think you're not his type and he 's not interested in you. you can still be good friends --that's my idea.
