I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but everytime I try to figure it out my brain goes blank.
Ive got a serious crush on this girl. We've known each other since middle school, she's a year ahead of me. We have been on about three dates, movies mall, etc. I like her alot and she likes me. We are not officially a couple yet. About two months ago she announced her sweet 16 party and she asked her family to invite me as her escort.
Ok, I've been grounded for the last two months, only been able to contact her through friends, and since she's a year ahead, I hardly see her at school. A couple weeks before Valentines day I did some stupid stuff with another girl. After a long debate on whether this was cheating or not, I decided I should tell her before she heard it from someone else, and take my chances. She said she appreciated it but we should take things slow on the boyfriend girlfriend thing. That was okay cause at least she didn't tell me to drop dead, and she didn't withdraw the invitation to her party.
The week before Valentines day I sent her a message asking what she would say if I asked her to be my valentine, she said ask her and find out. I sent her roses and candy at school on valentines day, and she sent me a message saying I ruined her makeup, a friend said it made her cry.
The party is in about three weeks...gifts are discouraged, but I want to give her something personal for her birthday. I don't want to presume things by giving her anything like jewelry...or is this the right time to give her a heart on a chain or something? I guess I'm trying to send a message through a gift... Don't know if that's cool or not. The message would be, I really like you, I'm gonna pursue you.....I don't even know.
If you wanna pursue her then get her a GPS tracker. KIDDING
If you want to get her a gift that she will really like but will not break the bank or make any presumptions about your relationship together then think on a personal level. Nothing cliche like a bracelet or earrings. Nothing cheap like a giant stuffed animal. If there is some weird knock off thing that reminds you of her and reminds her of you then buy it.
My girlfriend I love sock monkeys and novelty roses. Not real flowers, but plush fuzzy ones. If you have any things like that when you two have been together then get it. Also, you can handwrite her a card. Don't buy one from the store. Girls love handwritten cards Be candid and sweet, and tell her how you feel about her.
Flowers are always a good start. Maybe talk to her and find out the things she likes, like if she collects something or something is special to her, then get her a present like that. Or you could always make her something, but I've found that most guys suck at and avoid crafts lol. Another idea is if you have any random inside jokes... If the present reminds her of an inside joke it'll make her laugh
Also, try to find a time where you can both have a few minutes alone together to give her the present, rather than in front of people.

Thanks much. I agree that certain gifts would seem like I'm presuming and getting ahead of myself, and others would just be cheesy. The handwritten card is a cool idea. I wrote a poem about her recently, and think this might work nicely. It definitely tells how I feel about her cause I wrote about not being able to tell her I love her. Giving this much thought. Thanks.

I do suck at making things, but I can write, I guess that's hand made. And the last part I never even thought about, thanks so much for suggesting that.
