Teenage life: pleasure or pressure?
yeah thats the name of the essay i have to write by tomorrow, this is what i've already done...
Throughout my teenage years I have been told to ‘make the most of being young’ and ‘teenagers these days have it so easy’ but do we really?
I think to a certain extent we do have it easy. When our Grandparents were our age they didn’t have the opportunity to have a good education like we do, in fact school was probably uncommon for most of them once they hit the age of fourteen or fifteen years old. This was because the majority of them were required to work to earn money for their family. So a lot of hard physical work was expected of them, but they had the gratification of not having any exams.
Exams can be one of the most stressful things a teenager has to endure, depending on their school or parents and their high expectations; teens can be forced beneath a heavy workload putting them under a lot of pressure. It is now compulsary to succeed in exams to get into the college/univertity that they want to go to as there is a lot of competition. This adds even more pressure to the current strain of doing well.
Pressure from parents and teachers to succeed in examinations is not the only type of pressure teenagers have to undergo – there are many shapes and forms of it out there! Another common sort of pressure is peer pressure; this is when one is persuaded to do something by others they aspire to be like do. For example, smoking – this unfortunately is not a rarity amongst our generation but well over half of the teenage smokers out there felt like it were a necessity to complete their desired image as it seems like everyone around them is doing it.
On the subject of image, it is one of the main importancies to a teenager in the 21st century, this can be both a pleasure and pressure. Teens are very lucky that they have such a great choice of image compared to what used to be available to their parents and grandparents when they were young. Clothing and accesories are easily affordable and available and purchasing them can be an extremely pleasurable experience. However there’s always going to be the common problem of feeling pressurised by other people to dress ‘correctly’. There are many different fashion styles but only one of two of them are ‘correct’, teens may find themselves being teased or even bullied by others because of the way they dress.
its only 400 words and it needs to be a tleast 1000, but i cant think of what else to writeeeee, any ideas?

Re: Teenage life: pleasure or pressure?
What you have so far, is great. Maybe go a little into depth though. And also, if you're writing an essay, you need Intro, 3 points and a conclusion. I can't tell any of that in this. So maybe something along the lines of:
Depending on the family background, we're given various ammounts of preassure from our parents to succeed in life, or to not make the mistakes they did. However, in other cultures, there are greater expectations. For a child from a Chinese Background for example, they are required to go to 'Chinese School' so they can learn to speak their language better, and normal schooling, to learn about other subjects and world topics. On top of this, the parents expect about 2 - 5 hours of private study and extra homework before and after dinner. Some also cut off ALL extra curricular activities.
So, not all teenagers have it easy. To an extent, we do have it easier. We don't have o walk home in the rain, our parents are just a phone call away on a mobile phone, which we all have.
Something along those lines maybe? Don't have to use it, just throwing ideas out there. But bring other cultures into the essay and make sure that the teacher can see your Introduction, 3 points and Conclusion. That is vital when it comes to final exams.
Good Luck, if you need anymore help, PM me.

Re: Teenage life: pleasure or pressure?
Okey. Well i'll be more than happy to help. Have you made an introduction? Intros are basically, Introduce the topic, define the topic, introduce the points you'll make. So something like:
Each year we're told by many different people, that we have it really easy as teenagers. That we need to make the most out of our life and 'back in ther day', they had to work forwhat they wanted. But is this really true? Do teenagers have it that easy these days? With the pressure of exams, and to get good grades, and the fact that university isn't even an option without passing an A level, we may think it's not actually that easy. Our grandprents tell us stories about how they left school at 13 or 14 so they could go work, we don't have to do that now. Teenagers in the UK, have it easier than teenagers in Asia for example. Are we wallowing in self pity? Or do we just not have any idea about what 'Hard' is? But in a way, things still are difficult. Even at school, we have pressures, both peer and educational. Yet again, it could be better than being out in the real world.
That's an exaple of an intro. You have the toic introduced, it's been defined in a way without needing a dictionary, and the points are there. You can add more if you want. Cos I don't know your exact points.
Hope this helps. xxx

Re: Teenage life: pleasure or pressure?
Throughout my teenage years I have been told to ‘make the most of being young’ and ‘teenagers these days have it so easy’ but do we really?A lot of people assume that all british teenagers do have it easy compared to other cultures such as the Chinese are forced upon a lot of extra study as this is thought of a neccesity to lead a succesful life, whereas the majority of british parents don’t expect copious amounts of study (and i’m talking about hours, whilst banning ALL extra curricular activites) from their offspring. Are we wallowing in self-pity? Or do we just not have any idea what ‘hard’ really is? We also have a huge variety of technology to keep up entertained. I think that pressure can vary from teen to teen as many have different health/family/wealth/friendship problems or situations, which can be a big impact upon their lives causing unwanted pressure which can add to their problems even more.
:-)
thats my introduction, what dya think?
i really really appreciate your help by the way, you're a star!

GOODNESS GIRLIE! What is your school teaching you? Never ever refer to yourself or say 'i' In an essay. This is really badly marker down. So instead maybe, istead of (and i’m talking about hours, whilst banning ALL extra curricular activites), say (As well as hours upon hours of extra study, and banning all extra curricular activities.
I think that pressure can vary from teen to teen as many have different health/family/wealth/friendship problems or situations, which can be a big impact upon their lives causing unwanted pressure which can add to their problems even more.
You can't said 'I think'. go for something more like: In opinion of many people, pressure varies from teen to teen, depending on health/family/wealth/friendship problems or situaions. This can have a large impact on the lives of teenagers and causing even more unwanted pressure. Especially with internet and mobile phone access now, teens cannot leave the issues at school behind, because its just as easy to send a text or start a conversation on MSN, and make the problem even larger.
Great work mate! You're ding really well. Just make sure you don't use 'I' or 'I think'.
Keep it up! Ill be checking this every few minutes to give you help if needed! oxx
