Icon30 Politics and the Military

Those are the two choices I'm considering when I get out of school. I know I'm only 14 years old, and I have 4 years before I'm out of school and going into college; but I've been thinking about it lately. About joining the Military, or a job as a political aid. I talked to my parents about it, and they said they would follow me and support me in whatever I choose to do. The Military would provide good opportunities for me and I feel like it's something I want to do, but then again, so does being a political aid. You may say 4 years is a long time, but I don't see it that way, I see it as a time limit to decide what to do. I guess I'm posting this thread to get some outside views and advice on what I should do.

Go for the Military.
It's more honorable.

Also you can actually do something that helps people.

That's where I'm aiming for, but being a political aid has also captured my attention.

White text = can't read.

Yes, but, in politics you ruin lives.
In the Military, you save lives by killing.

Meh, it's the same either way.

With political aid though, it depends on who you are aiding. Don't tell me, I don't even wanna know!

Politics = Way more cut-throat

Sorry about the white print, guess I had the color set to white. I know in politics there are the idiots, and people who should not be in there. If I can't make it in the Military (which I'm hoping I will be able to), I want to be a political aid, or just a politician to try to...how do I explain this? To try to be a down to Earth person and weed out the ones who should not be there and get them out.

In general, this is a good thing. But, again, I don't wanna know what side you're on. XD

That sounds like a plan to me though, if you can't make the Military then a political aid would work as a good back up.

I'm not really on any side in particular. I don't consider myself a Democratic or a Republican. When I'm old enough to vote, I'm not sure which party I will join. Isn't there a party called the Independent Party? Or something close to it?

Yes, there is. They tend to lean more to the Dem. side though.
Also, it's a vote splitting party. It's the group both sides fight over because hardly any independents are worth voting for. Usually because the states tend to be either Dem. or GOP.

Not a large group, but it has a lot of former republicans in it despite being left-leaning because the GOP often gets fed up with their own party and thinks that a third party is a solution when in reality it only makes things worse as it's a vote splitting party.

Oops, I didn't mean to go into an explanation. But yes, there is an Independent party.
I'm not 100% sure you can register as one or not though. I've never heard of it at least - but I tend to tone people out a lot.

There's also a Conservative party, which is different from the GOP - however, you can only register as a conservative in certain states, like NY for example.
The two main ones are Democrat and Republican but there are Independents, Greens, and Conservatives and if you wanna be an idiot, there's also the Tea Party (but it's not an actual party, that's just what the media wants you to think).

My Grandma got fed up with the Democratics and Republicans calling her all the time, so she switched to Independent. I hope I'm able to do that. My mom and I are going to talk to a recruiter who is situated in the mall by my house, and get some information about which branch of the Military would be best for me.

Keep in mind, you are still young, they might tell you to wait until 16 to look into it.

Though, I do have one good suggestion.
ROTC.

If you do that in high school then you can enter the Military at a slightly higher rank than you would had you not done ROTC. They give slight military training in that.
It's a regular elective at most schools. Some of my friends are military brats and most of them are in the ROTC because they plan on going into the military.
One's going to the Navy, one the Army, and the other the Air Force.
I believe it's pretty generic. But I wasn't in it, so I couldn't say much about it.
