Today I was at lunch, and my friend was in the bathroom. We wanted to flip his bookbag. I opened it up, and found nothing but two bags of pretzels, so instead of flipping the bag, I dumped the pretzels in the bag and crushed them to dust. He came back and dumped the crumbs all over the table, an administrator saw the mess and instead of making us clean it up, gave us referrals.
Is this as stupid as I think it is? I feel it was a harmless prank between me and my friend. If they didn't like the crumbs on the table, make us clean it up or do something reasonable, but don't give us referrals for nonsense like this...
But you would have preferred that punishment? Purpose defeated.

Shoulda told the administrator that you would clean up the mess when he/she handed you the referral; they might not of sent you up. Kinda catch them in their own game.
As for dumb referrals try being sent to the office for a shirt saying "Fart Master *toxic symbol* Caution: Contents Under Pressure" hahas.
Marietta- Referrals are given for students who display acts of deviance or do something to put someone's safety at risk. Crushing pretzels inside an empty backpack is neither, more of a simple prank/joke. Yes, I would have preferred cleaning up the crumbs from the table, it is not nearly as ridiculous a punishment, and to be honest, it's what I was expecting to happen. The only reason a referral was issued was because the administrator was on an extreme power trip today (typically the nicest admin in school).
Big H- Yeah, that's a little bit stupider than mine. lol. I haven't seen the written referral yet, but I can't wait until tomorrow morning when I have to sign a yellow piece of paper that says "Student was crushing pretzels inside another student's backpack," just so I can start laughing.
Let me see if I got this right: You violated your friends space and his privacy by putting pretzels into his bag, and smashing them, creating a mess...and when he returned and dumped them on the table, you got caught..and you're complaining about getting a referral? Are you for real?
Maybe it wasn't so funny... "Funny" is some joke or story or punchline with some real humor..where's the humor there? Other than to you and your accomplice, that is? The bag wasn't yours in the first place, you had no right to go into it, and you certainly didn't have the right to put anything in it, nevertheless a mess. And, perhaps that 'Really nice administrator' figured this all out..good for him.
Want a cheap piece of really good advice here? When you're approached tomorrow with that yellow referral sheet, instead of being a jack ass and laughing about it, maybe fess up to what you did..it will save the bag's owner the unnecessary experience of being included in YOUR referral (he was the victim, after all, and we don't punish the victim) AND you have the ever so slight chance of redeeming yourself in the eyes of the people in charge, most notably that otherwise 'nice' administrator who got wise to you.
And welcome to Teen Forumz, I'm Sam..and I'm not particularly tolerant of bad behavior...esp. by those who idiotically brag about it (and it's consequences) later.
View it from the Administrator's perspective. Take into account what was happening in his/her day and you will usually find the reason for the degree of the punishment you received.
I'm not sure the exact nature of a referral or what that entails as far as repercussions.
But your offense does seem to merit more punishment then a simple "clean it up"... Sorry to say.
