I never do my homework, never did. i just don't see why smart students that pick up fast need it! i mean homework is for practicing the matirial right? and what if i don't need to practice??? huh? huh?!?!
So thats been my opinion on homework since well forever. and the best part is that my parents couldn't care less! my mom is actualy the one i got the idea from. she says that what she did when she was my age... so yeah, cool for me!
I don't really like homework, but then again neither does any other teen. However, I got a huge wake up call the last part of the year, when I failed my math class. It was all due to not doing my homework. Since the new grading period has started, I've done all of my homework for math, turned it in, and I'm doing very well.
Whether you believe so or not, homework plays a big part on your grade. It doesn't matter if you get the material quickly, or you understand it faster than other students, the point is, you are still required to do it. That's a naive way of thinking, even if you did get it from your mom. Passing tests and quizzes alone won't get you to pass all of your classes.
Perhaps there's some reality hw for you to take to get a awakening... seriously. you're gonna be screwed in college, they don't teach you everything in classes. You actually get in serious trouble for not doing your hw, how old are you anyways? I'm surprised you haven't been in trouble about it yet. Stop being lazy, and do your homework, you need it, it's not that big of a deal, and you're gonna be screwed later in life not doing it.
I didn't do my algebra homework for a good 3/4 of the year. Then one of my teachers emailed my mom about my bad grades I had the third qaurter like 2 weeks in. This caused my mom to check and she found out I didn't do my homework. Sadly this meant that I needed to start doing it. I just didn't do it because I still passed my classes.
HW is about more than practice. It's about self discipline and structure and performance and expectations... important lessons that go far beyond some of the nonsense of the actual HW assignment.
Being smart means seeing the bigger picture always and responding based on that assessment, rather than the urge of the moment to dismiss the irrelevancy of HW. Believe me, if you want to remain smart and successful, these are veeery good lessons to practice.
Trust me, do your homework. I didn't do it and I did bad in school, although that was for other reasons too but still, it just helps to do the homework.
Although really I don't see the point in assigning homework. Never did. If I didn't understand it in class, I'm not gonna have any better understanding at home and I couldn't ask my parents - considering they got home too late and were tired and would always get on to be about how I "should know all this already". Which is bullshit, they never taught us anything.
Anyway... even if I did my homework, I almost never turned it in on time. Why? I don't know, I just didn't. My teachers were fucking stupid or lazy when it came to homework and turning it in - they were never clear on how and when they wanted you to turn it in. And if you wanted to give it to them directly, they wouldn't take it. Which is why I didn't bother with homework, even when i did it, it almost never got to the teacher.
However, doing homework helps with grades. Homework really doesn't have a point, to me at least, but if we don't do it our grades would suffer.

Usually,60%+ of the course grade is based on the homework.
that usually varies per college/university and even then further down on the classes... I've had classes where midterms were 60-70%, homework 20-30%, and attendance/misc ~10%
But yeah homework is great as a study tool at the very least since you can loosely use that as a foundation on what to expect on tests. Math especially for me, it forces you into a particular mindset that allows you to see how to manipulate an equation many would just glance over.
Believe me, most professors will not cover everything in class that will be needed in the homework but will not hesitate to use it on tests (actually they are more inclined to). Homework would be a good way to gauge your understanding of the material and provide a reason to attend your professor/teacher's office hours if you have questions (and not be dumbstruck when you see a similar problem in the test).
Do your homework for sure, this year (10th, sophomore in Highschool) I am taking all advanced classes plus honors Spanish and I'm not used to doing homework since I didn't last year and made all A's... Well I got a wakeup call and pretty much fucked up my entire 10th grade so don't make the same mistake I did, I still regret it. Next year is my final year to make it count for college.
