So I've just begun English GCSE (Which everyone has to do in my country) and to pass we have a 'Speaking & Listening' section. Within that section we have to do a presentation on our own.
I have to do mine sometime this week (Maybe even tomorrow D: ) on my own in front of the whole class! I am really nervous for it - And it is going to go towards my GCSE grade and I'm going to get like an F when I'm supposed to be aiming for a B -_-
I've had a whole week to prepare for it, but I've done nothing at all, I didn't want to think about it. So now I only have today to plan and practice it and I have no idea how I'm going to do it!!
I know I'll go all red and then I won't be able to pronounce my words and then everyone will laugh at me! Hmm... Suppose I better start preparing for it.
all ive got is a Level 3 Diploma :/ Nothing i can do actually.. Just be your self and be Calm ! thats the key being calm as for the .. presentation..umm dunno
Anybody can become angry , Thats really easy ...
but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way that is not within everybody's power and is not easy.
But it has to be 3 minutes long and so far I only have 44 seconds!!! Arghhhhh! I have to moan about Traffic Jams for 3 minutes. No idea how I'm going to do it...
I've done my speaking and listening and I got A's.
What I found helpful was trying to make yourself sound natural like you were talking to a friend about it, but formally. As hard as it might be also, it might look better if you try and look like you have some sort of interest in the subject. Add normal facial expressions and emotions to try and make it look genuine and maybe add light humour or sarcasm to make it a bit more interesting. If you have to "moan" about it then make sure you bring up valid points instead of rambling
As for being nervous well, I didn't have to do it in front of the class, just one to one with my teacher so it'll be a bit more difficult for you but other times when I've done things in front of the class me and my friend arranged that we would keep looking back at each other and stay serious since you're comfortable looking at your friend. Maybe try focusing on a fixed point on the back wall if you feel like to can't look at anyone?
You could probably find some speaking and listening scripts online for this kind of thing? Or just general information on traffic jams.
I wish I could just do it infront of the teacher, I know I'll be more confident, but she said no -_-
I would look at my friend but I know I'll laugh, so I might just stare at the clock or something...
I'll look online now for traffic jams lol! Thanks, I actually feel a little more confident now after reading that
I heard that a good way to get over being nervous of speaking in front of people is to get a friend to sit right in the middle of the group your speaking to and pretend that your just reading it out to that person.
Good luck!
1) Familiarize yourself with the subject. This makaes your voice sound more conversational and less juttery, because you actually know what you are talking about. Plus, if you forget what you wanted to say, you can mention something else.
2) Record yourself speaking beforehand, and play it back. You'll hear what you liked and didn't like, and then you can make a conscious decision beforehand.
3) Pan the audience. Like, don't look them directly in the eyes, but focus on one side of the room for a minute, another side for a minute, and then finish in the middle.
