Default GCSE time :(

Hey everybody! Its GCSE time for me again... year 10. I can't do none of my coursework, I'm failing on some of my Geography coursework, I've got the lowest grade I should have in the class, a D. Everybody else is A's an B's and I feel so stupid... And Also I feel like I'm going to fail on my Maths exam (next Wed!!) and also Science... I can't do none at all, I go to Maths booster sessions, also starting Science, but I really don't get any and I'm getting really really stressed and feel like crying :'( please help!

Shit, don't remind me of that, just take a deep breath and focus on what needs to be done, plan your time etc, this was drilled into me so much I still remember it clearly, 18 months later. But you are more likely to fail if you freak out, than if you calm down and just go through things one at a time, spend one hour doing science, then take a break, then do geography etc.

Calm down.
I was the same at first with my exams.
Plan your revision carefully, take regular breaks and make sure that it's actually going in your not just reading and forgetting.
Let yourself have a rest once in a while, but make sure you get what you need to do, done.
Do the subjects an hour at a time, or 45 minutes, whatever you can manage without your attention wandering.

Good luck!

Just keep calm.
I'm also in year 10 and I tend to get the lowest grades in my class lol. But that will just make you more determined to get higher next time? Just do your best, don't care what others do. I got a D in French and everyone got As and Bs, but I just carried on and worked hard and managed to get a C the next time. There's always time for improvement, and we all have our strengths and weaknesses.
I got a Maths exam a week on Monday, and it's good you're going to Maths Booster sessions! Tell the people who lead it what you're struggling with and they could help you? Try online sites too, like MyMaths. And Revise!!!!!!! Don't do too much at once though, have breaks. Also, just reading won't get you anywhere, you have to practise and practise. Stay calm when in the exam - Do not panic!
As for Science... I feel your pain. I hate Science. Just forget what you got last time in your tests/exams, and start fresh. End of year 9 I got an F... But in my recent year 10 Science tests I got D/C. Just stay positive and don't assume you can't do anything. If you need help, tell a teacher what on. Good luck!

First, get off internet forums and go study . It gets harder in year 11, I'm in year 11 now, so try and apply yourself now so you get used to the idea of having alot of work.

Try asking friends who get good grades to help you or explain things you don't understand.

Ask a teacher after/before class and maybe enquire about extra tutoring.

Do not panic. I've been there and cried and stressed and worried myself sick and it doesn't do you any good. All it does is stop you from finishing.
Grab a cup of something hot, eat some chocolate, sit down and get yourself comfortable and get it done. The main thing is getting it finished. Teachers are concerned about deadlines too so even if you don't do so well then you can work on making your grades higher but only you can make sure you keep up. It's much easier to focus on what you're learning currently then having to remember things for coursework you should have handed in previously.

Make sure you're well prepared. Don't try and write a piece of coursework that you have no information for. You obviously have internet so use it to your advantage. If you prepare yourself with all the information that you need/that you're allowed to have then your main focus is then just the writing structure. Do your research. It helps

Good Luck

Regularly go over everything you've done in class. If your teachers give you revision booklets, complete them and go over them as well. You can try internet sites like bitesize. I usually revise for 35 minutes, take a a 20 minute break and then go back at it again for 35 minutes and so on. I don't think anybody can concentrate for longer than that; you'll just be reading words and learning nothing if you go on for longer
It's proven that revisiting material often will help you remember it better and your grades WILL go up. If you haven't bothered taking notes in class or doing any work to go over than it's your fault, and you're fucked

Haha thanks for this everybody..
I did loads of stuff yesterday, Organised one to one sessions with my Chemistry teacher, went to my Maths Booster which never makes NO sense to me at all, then I was going to Geography to get help, but she wasn't there, then I went up to Biology to get help with my homework etc, and on the sheet, I got full marks, 20/20 so I got a B on that, and everybody else got C's, I was only one with a B I think..

I WOULD go ask friends, but I hardly have any, I get bullied and it like gets worse so piling on with the stress.. Not good.
I had a detention today for not doing my Geography homework, went to ask, but she wasn't in! and then I didn't do ANY work in period/lesson 1, I didn't have a CLUE what to do in that, so I've given up.. Good luck to everybody doing exams. My Maths one is next Wednesday, 1.15pm.

Hi Amy. I am also in year 10 and doing my GCSE's. Firstly, calm down and just relax - you won't be able to do much when you're that stressed. Try not to worry too much, as moving to GCSE's can be challenging and overwhelming, and it's okay to struggle a bit at first.

Why do you feel you can't do your geography homework? Maybe if you post in the homework help forum saying what you have to do, you could get some help. Also, speak to your teacher after class and tell her how you're feeling and how you're struggling. You're not stupid if you got a D - we're barely into this school year so most people won't at the level to pass their exams yet. What I mean in, we're not ready to take the exam, so it's okay if you don't get a C or above at first. In your lessons, you'll learn how to progress and how to achieve passing or higher levels. Everyone is at a different level, so try to not compare yourself to other people, because that doesn't do anything positive and just makes you feel rubbish, which can't help you. For your maths test, why do you think you'll fail? Does your school use mymaths? If so, go on there and do some of the lesson and homework tasks. Or maybe speak to your teacher about the specific things in maths you struggle with. I understand how confusing maths can be, but you may do the test and get a higher level than you expect. For science, the same thing really - speak to your teacher about the things you have learnt that you don't understand, and look through your books.

A good website to use for revision or maybe if you're struggling with something in a lesson, is the GCSE bitesize website. It has various games, activities, mini tests and revision pages for many subjects. Also, whenever you have exams, you need to revise properly by going through your work books as well. As it is easier remember something if you take the information in in a certain way - just reading through books won't help you remember information. Instead, you should write revision stuff from your books down in your own words, so you are more likely to remember it for your exam. Another thing is, try your best not to panic in exams because you'll probably just forget a lot of important things. Don't get too stressed when revising - give yourself some time to chill out too, but make sure you spend enough time doing revision things.

That's great that you have organized the one-to-one sessions with your Chemistry teacher - I hope that works out well for you. As for maths, maybe speak to the teacher after the booster session or after lessons. I think it's great that you are going to revision sessions - this could really help you, so anytime one comes up, you should try to make it. You should keep trying to find your Geography teacher, or maybe ask her about stuff after your lesson if you can. Well done with your Biology, though - that's great. You should feel really good about that achievement, and you could use that as something to keep you feeling good about your academic progress and keep you going to improve your progress in other lessons.

I understand how you feel about the lack of friends and bullying thing - I've been in your position before. How you want to deal with it depends on how many people are bullying you and what type of bullying it is, but bullying is not acceptable and you should tell a teacher. I would advise you to make a different thread about the bullying, explaining it in more detail so people can help you and give you proper advice. You can talk to me anytime about bullying and friendship problems - I will be happy to help you. It seems like a really hard thing to do, but just try to stay strong and not let it affect you too much. You are obviously very bothered about your academic progress and right now, you should be. It's great that you're making such an effort at school, so you have no time for pathetic people. Try to focus on school work instead of the bullies. Bullies are pathetic, disgusting idiots, who aren't worth a second of your time.

Good luck with your academic progress and exams - I hope everything works out well for you.

Hiya... I don't know why I'm stressed, as we did proper GCSE's in year 9. I got a 4' Cs and a E in Maths. .. It would help, if the homework said what to do.
I've got loads of revision papers I did to revise on, The booster session is just run with random people who AREN'T EVEN TEACHERS! Also I emailed my two maths teachers, and I'm staying behind with one on Monday to revise...
I don't understand this.. My Chemistry teacher said to me 'Amy, You have to go to Geography revision classes on a Tuesday instead of here.' and I just went 'NO! I'M NOT GOING THERE, I DONT EVEN CARE ABOUT GEOGRAPHY!' But its true tho, whats more important? GCSE In Chemistry, or Geography? My schools a Specialist Science School, so surely, I should be doing Chemistry?

Also I will start a post on the bullying thing. Thanks!

Good luck to everybody else! xx
