Default Old people homes

As in care homes for the elderly.
Okay, so in March I have work experience and I now have the oppurtunity to choose where to go. I want to decide ASAP, so I have a chance of getting what I want to do.
A few hours ago I thought about working in a old peoples home... Though most on the list only want over 15s and I turn 15 a week after work experience!! D:
There's a few left and I was just wondering if anyone has ever had any experience in working in one or being in one? I haven't actually stepped foot in one

I haven't but my aunt works in one, she said before that it's hard work, tiring, and the old people can be violent at times.

I work in a nursing home and I don't recommend it unless you can deal with a super fast paced environment with almost no one on one time with the residents.literally all ur time is spent toileting, changing diapers, trying to get cognitively impaired people to understand you etc. Its not the type of work most people think it is. You almost always go home sweaty, worn down and covered in some sort of bodily fluid.you really have to love the elderly and respect their conditions and limitations and disabilities.

Also, this past 2 weeks, this one lady I'm responsible for has woken up in a pool of her own shit because she's incontinent of bowel and is on new meds that make it all black and tar-like. I have to send her pajamas down to laundry, change her bedding and pretty much give her a full bed bath every single morning and at the end of the day, you have to like the work or you'll be absolutely miserable.

My mom worked in various nursing homes over the time when she was working as a nurse and although she enjoyed it, it was long, hard work.

I shadowed a friend of hers there for a school project, so I got to see firsthand how things are. Pretty much what Shonna described. It's not pretty and old people can get violent. I wouldn't do it again unless I had to.

I've done a work experience in one and I didn't enjoy it at all. It's really depressing seeing old people unwell and crapping themselves and struggling to speak/walk/remember things. It upset me a little. I did another one in a children's nursery as well though and that wasn't great either xD I'd look for a shop if I were you

I've been in them when my grandad was in one. My best friend works in one and the stories she tells me, it's not for me. But she finds it SO rewarding being able to help and care for them in what could be their last years. It's all down to what kind of person you are really. I couldn't do it, but I admire those who do.

My cousin works in one and doesn't like it, she wants to quit the job, I don't think it's much fun working with old people, it'd probably be better if you could work with younger people, people your own age or children or something.

I went back to my old Primary School, it was great fun, I'd definitely recommend doing that to anyone that wants ideas.
