Haha... Yeah, I was section leader the last 2 years for the trumpets, and I'm the only senior in my section this year. Live marching..really sad this was my last year with my high school. We had our best season by far this year. I'm planning on doing marching band in college, the one I'm going to actually hosts a contest in our state that we didn't go to, but I really like hosting. I also want to audition for a DCI corps as many times as I can before ageing out. x]
YES! I'm a trumpet too! I'm thinking about going for section leader, but I don't think I'll get it. My band director doesn't like me too much. He has this God complex that band comes before school and life. I disagree, so we have some issues. Unfortunately he has no idea how dedicated I am. I have bad knee problems, and it takes someone to force me off the field before I sit down. I also have trouble breathing, and it takes me almost passing out before I sit. I clean up the band room most practices because everyone else leaves the place a mess. I tell people to stop when they start messing with the pit instruments like he tells us not to. I'm a very dedicated band member, yet when I have something more important than one practice, he flips. Needless to say we don't get along like we used to lol.
This year we won championships for our state. It was great. So many people are going for DCI here. Good luck. I hope you do well.
Our band is pretty intense as far as practices and band camp. How is yours?
I wish Dutch schools had marching bands. I'd join one so quick you wouldn't even notice it!
It would make dull schools so much more inetresting, and at least it keeps up the morale. And i know that our Dutch education needs that oh so badly...
Lawl, yeah our director is like that too about missing rehearsals, but I've never missed. Except for part of our camp last year, but I was out of the country so I couldn't really help it. Haha, ours is pretty intense, we do two weeks of camp before school, 8:00 - 5:00 days, we do about 100 pushes and crunches each by the middle of week one and run laps.. We have to run a lap for being late to practices too, or for not having dot books (or drill books, whatever you call them). We made top 6 in almost every contest this year. We got 2nd at our first contest which was incredible, our band has never done better than 6th since our director has been here, an we finally made it back into finals at our state championships. We made 8th there, which is tied for the best we've done at championships, so I was happy with it. We'd been having bad luck of doing well at very contest ad then missing championships by less than a point for my sophomore and junior years, so it was really nice to be back in finals again:]
Gah, I sound like suuuuuch a nerd right now, hehe >_<
We have two weeks of band camp too, but we go from 9am to 9pm. which really means 9:30. We also have to do laps and pushups. And ohh the dot book. I always have mine
There's really only two bands in our level. We're one of two of the biggest bands. The other one have been our main competition for years. Our town has lost for decades until recently. For the pasts 6 years or so we've been kicking brass and taking names.
Now who's the nerd? lol
Haha, nice x] our school is 6A in our state, so we're in the same group for championships as these ENORMOUS, incredible bands in our state, even though we're maybe only a quarter of their size. It's kind of difficult here, cause those big bands we go up against are 3 of the top bands in the country.. I dunno if you go to any Bands of America events, but if you do then you'd know them. We did really well keeping up with them though, at our smaller contests we got a lot of captions. Tied for visuals once, and won music and general effect in our broken down class groupings at those.
No, we don't go to Bands of America, we really only participate in MAC, Musical Arts Conference. Sounds like you guys are pretty good though. It's awesome being in a great band like that. It's an awesome feeling
