United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
United Kingdom
I just want to explain some things about the United Kingdom because a lot of people I speak to (online and in real life) don't understand some things and I just want to explain it all, for both Britons and those that don't live in the UK. So, where and what is the United Kingdom? UK is a part of Northern Europe. Most people from the UK don't know - or refuse to accept - that the UK is a part of Europe, which is silly because anyone with a passport or the internet can see it's true. Not only is the UK a part of Europe but it is also a part of the European Union.
If you're outside the UK then you probably reffer to the United Kingdom as a country itself. But, those on the inside reffer to England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland as their country. Both are correct, really - the UK is a country of countries. But, everyone that lives in the United Kingdom has the nationality of 'British', so we have the same nationality eitherway.
The Prime Minister
That sexy bastard is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. His name is David Cameron. David Cameron has been Prime Minister of the UK since May 2010.
Ireland
Yes, this thread is about the UK but I thought I'd do a short paragraph on Ireland too. Ireland is NOT a country; Ireland is an Island. This island has two countries: Republic of Ireland and some of the United Kingdom. Note: The 'Irish' are from the Republic of Ireland and nearly always reffer to their country as Ireland. So, how come part of this island belongs to the UK, then? Well, at the top of Ireland is the country Northern Ireland, which is a part of the UK. The Republic of Ireland use the Euro (they too are a part of the European union), but as soon as you cross over into Northern Ireland they use Pounds sterling, which is the official currency of the United Kingdom. Both countries have English as their official language, along with Irish. Northern Ireland also has Ulster Scots as an official language.

Quote:
Northern Ireland has not had its own unique, government-sanctioned flag since the Northern Ireland parliament and government were prorogued in 1972, and abolished in 1973.
From joy to sorrow, yesterday to tomorrow, you've been there. Friends like you are rare, your touch is so gentle,
You're my guardian angel.
Like a blossoming flower spreading your wings in grace, filling my heart with power
by feeling your embrace.
Wherever the wind may blow, we will overcome this war, in times happy or sore, I will never let you go.
With a gentle warm heart and a will of stone, We'll never be apart, You'll never be alone. - John <3
