I personally think that with the right guidance it won't affect any aspect of your bodys developement. The problem is people don't realize how much strain you put on your body whilst lifting weights. If you are doing a curl with a very light weight such as 10kg, you are putting 100kg of pressure on your lower back. So if you are kipping backwards even slightly, you risk serious injury.

This is why I suggest you read up on perfect form and correct etiquette before going to the gym if you are under 18.

DOn't do any weights that compresses your spine. Biceps/triceps/chest workouts are fine. Squats and back workouts are bad.

It can alter the proper growth of muscles if you don't do it properly. Before you engage in any physical activity always stretch all of the muscles you will be using. Also, never push yourself too hard, pushing yourself is ok, just don't over do it.

If you try to weight lift from under the age of 16 it could damage your body. Start when you're 16 and you'll be okay.

This does NOT go to say that when you turn 16 you should start lifting weights constantly and take loads of supplements.

You should start off by just going once a week and get used to the equipment at the gym, then go more regularly in time, and start using more advanced exercises. But everyone needs to start somewhere.

Just don't take supplements until you have been lifting for AT LEAST 1 year.
