We all know what racism is, so i don't have to explain that. But different people have different looks on it. Some people call you a racist faster then others.
I myself feel like i have two different sides, even though one is bigger then the other.
I have had more foriegn friends then Dutch friends on school, and i've even fallen in love with some of them. However, i also have my moments when foreigners piss me off. When i see someone walking around with a headscarf, i sometimes want to just pull them off their heads and tell them to adjust to our settings if you decide to live here. It also annoys me when people are talking in their own foreign language when they are sitting close to me. It always makes me feel like they are making fun of me without e knowing it.
On a sortwhat related note, we have this political guy in our coalition named Wilders. I voted for this political party because he had some good ideas. But when he got into the coalition, he became a total racist. He wants to outlaw headscarfs and burqas, stop new foreigners to come in, and throw the ones outt hat we currently have. Because i voted for this guy, i feel indirectly resposible for having such rasictic politics.
So here are my questions/discussion points:
- Do you personally think i am a racist?
- What do you understand under racism? Where does fooling around end and racism start?
"I believe in Karma. I can do bad things to people and assume they deserved it."
I'm not sure what headscarves have to do with race, and foreign doesn't necessarily mean their another race. xD I think you have a grievance with foreign cultures/ ideas if anything. But no, you're not a racist.
Racism takes different forms. Personal, quiet, institutional.
I think it takes more than a general suspicion of another race to be considered racist. suspicion of out groups is pretty natural, it just shouldn't lead to discrimination.
We all know what racism is, so i don't have to explain that.
I think this would be prejudice.
I know that there is such thing as racial prejudice, but I prefer to call that discrimination. I dunno, when I refer to discrimination for reasons other than racism I call it prejudice.
Anyway, none of this matters. You're not racist from what I can tell.
Sophisticated ignorance, write my curses in cursive
I get it custom, you a customer
You ain't ‘customed to going through Customs, you ain’t been nowhere, huh?
Every person should have his\her freedom to do whatever they want!! whether to wear headscarves, burqas or even bikinis!! I just don't understand why ppl intervene on other ppl's freedom!! let ppl do whatever they want!! oki I don't like seeing girls walkin in bikinis, should I go over to them and cover them up w\ clothes?? of course not, it's what they want to wear..it's none of my business!! so I think that hating someone bcz of what they wear or do,bcz u don't like it is racism!! did they ever hurt you or killed someone you love or stole your house or somethin?? then why should you hate them?? there's no rational reason!!
about the skin color...we were all created by god...we are all human beings..they're not some kind of aliens or somethin!! god won't judge u for how you look and what skin color you have..he'll judge you for what you did and what you didn't do!! racism about skin color is absolutely stupid and meaningless!!
Racist no, intolerant yes.
Racism is believing people should be treated inherently different because of their race. Joking, as long as you don't believe that, isn't racism. You can say racist things, yes, but saying racist things does not make you a racist.
I dont agree with the headscarf part. That's part of their religion and has value in it even though they are in another country. So, for me, I would consider it racist. About the language part, I agree, it gets kinda annoying at times.
for me racist, is discraminating people based on their race, colour of the skin, and physical features that catergorize them as a certain species. Me, for example, i look completely asian, but people dont know that i've been in north america all my life and can speak fluent english and french, while my chinese is blah. just saying, that someone who looks african, can be considered chinese or vice versa
- Do you personally think i am a racist?
Like Michael already stated, no. You're intolerant, that is all.
- What do you understand under racism? Where does fooling around end and racism start?
Under my viewpoint, racism isin't necessarily about skin color, that is just a variant. Racism is, of course, generalizing a concept as true for everyone belonging to that race, or the majority of that race. Believing they're superior or inferior, or that they should be treated in a certain way for being of their race, etc.
"If I do good, people might accuse me of selfish, ulterior motives, but I will still do it. Because I believe no one is malicious, not in their core, in their raw being.
The best in them is clouded by sorrows and fears, take those away and you'll bring out the brightest of lights in them.
Because no one can be happy without being kind, without giving ourselves to another, and we all love to give ourselves, it is our true nature.
That is why, even if I might get disappointed, I'll always give the best I've got. A single candle can light a thousand others and still burn." - Skezra
Racism is a doctrine developed to link specific traits , such as ethnic, religious, cultural, etc., in order to elevate one group respectively (social, racial, religious) as superior to others.
for me
sometimes we put up walls , not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to knock them down.
Racism is holding beliefs that a certain human trait justifies segregation of some sort or attitudes that they are inferior. It is usually accompanied with some sort of oppression, whether overt or not.
And I'll have to mention here that just because you voted for someone, that doesn't mean that you should feel bad. If you don't like the racist policies and you didn't know he would make them before hand, then you shouldn't feel bad about voting for him. Sometimes people change when they get into office and people had no idea (for example, Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines). If you do agree with the policies than you shouldn't feel bad or remorse for supporting them. It is what you believe in.
