Like Ray, I think it's important to talk to your Dad about how you feel. He'll be able to reassure you and make you feel better about the situation. It's going to be just as hard for him as it will be for you but you'll get through it and it will feel even more special when he's back. I'm sure you'll be able to call him and stuff so you'll still get to talk to him and doing that will make you feel better too.
If you can, try to think positively about it. Rather than thinking "he's going to be away for a such a long time and it's a dangerous job," keep telling yourself that "he's got a really good job and doing an excellent service to a country that really needs it right now". Be proud of what your Dad has become and always keep to forward to the next time you'll get to see him.
