my sister has never bothered to close her bedroom or bathroom doors when she changes her clothes. she's always been like that. no big deal, i don't care, except when my friends comes over. she's 11 and she starting wearing a bra a few months ago, and the other day a friend of mine came over around 11am and I was in my room. he comes in and tells me my sister is sitting at her computer wearing just her panties and bra. this is not the first time its happened either. my friends know that if they come over in the morning she's likely to be running around half naked and doesn't care if they see her like that. my mom has told her she needs to be dressed by 10am, but sometimes she doesn't even get out of bed by 10am, and doesn't put on any clothes until she wants to go someplace. she's not doing it to be sexy or anything like that (although my friends think it really sexy), she just doesn't care if people see her wearing just her panties and bra when she is in our house. she doesn't go outside like that, but its pretty normal for her to be like that in the morning or before going to bed.

She's just comfortable with her body and being semi-dressed around people. If you don't like the idea of her being in just her underwear when your friends come over then you and your Mom need to start telling her things like "Jake is coming over in 10 minutes, you need to get dressed please." If she doesn't want to or see the need to then you might want to start saying things such as "My friends feel awkward when you're just in your underwear" and your Mom can take the approach of "You're a growing girl now, you need to cover yourself up and be decent when anybody comes over."

Chances are, as she gets a little bit older, she'll want to cover herself up in front of people anyway but there's nothing wrong with you and your Mom asking her to.

my friends think it is kind of cool that she is like that because they have sisters, and their sisters aren't like that at all. my friends don't like me to tell her to go get dressed, because they like it she's half naked and she acts like it is normal be like that.

it drives my mom crazy more than it does me. in some ways i don't care, like when my friends aren't around she can run around the house naked if she wants, but if we are playing video games and she comes downstair wearing just her nightshirt and nothing underneath, my friends find her more interesting than playing video games. ok, they like her and thinks she fun even when she wearing normal clothes too, but things are different when she hasn't gotten dressed in the morning and its already lunch time. if her friends come over, she gets dressed, but they even think it funny that she doesn't care that boys see her before she gotten dressed in the morning. she acts like all my friends are her brothers, so she doesn't care, but they aren't her brothers and they for sure don't think of her as their sister when she not gotten dressed yet.

It's not unreasonable to expect the other people at home to be fully clothed when you have guests. Regardless of what she might be OK with, or you might be Ok with, or your folks when you guys are alone and in the comfort and privacy of your own home, the rules change for outsiders. It's why guys wear ties to work, we dress for the public.

Josh is right that you should gently remind her when your friends are coming over and to let her know what you want. Even though she's almost at the bra wearing stage, emotionally she's still a little kid, and typically little kids do what they want b/c they are pretty self focused. With a little help, she'll learn to take others needs and expectations into consideration, even if it means doing things that she doesn't necessarily want to or see a need to. But that's a learned thing, you and your mom have to teach her that. Just keep it nice, and keep giving your mom the info she needs to work with her too.

mom says she doesn't have any inhibitions about anything, which is why she acts that way. she'll get dressed in the morning when somebody reminds her (again and again), and sometimes she remembers by herself. she's just as likely to forget as she is to remember. my friends just think she cute that way because she 11.

but, yeah maybe if we kind reminding her to get dressed in the morning it will start to sink in. once school starts in a month, it won't be a problem anyway, except on sat & sun.

The way your sister dresses is just normal . It's just a way to say that she is comfortable . Being in her own house she shouldn't have to be all dressed up being that it is only 11 am , especially if she's not qoing anywhere .

I understand what you are saying . Whether she likes to be comfortable or not when your friends come over she should show more respect by closing her door and letting your friend concentrate on something other than her .

If she doesn't close her door maybe you should close it for her . Being that you know what she wears and what time your friends come over you should already be prepared because guys will be guys. Ofcouse they are going to look .

I beg to disagree. Someone who's comfortable with her body won't make other people uncomfortable by walking around half naked. Normal behavior is to avoid negative reactions, and it looks like she's getting plenty of it.

She's being intentionally disobedient. The issue is not whether she's dressed or not, but that she's annoying you all. The thing is, that if she chooses to protest by showing off her body, the unpleasant though here is what there is to protest about.

it happened again a couple of days ago. i had a bunch a friends over to hang out by the pool because it was so hot. one my friends went upstairs to use the bathroom because the someone was using the downstairs bathroom and he walked past her bedroom and she changing into her swim suit and he saw her boobs because she didn't close her door. my friend thought it was cool because he never seen any girls boobs before (besides on the Internet). i dare not say anything to my mom because she'll just get upset and make a bunch more rules. my sister said she just forgot to close the door and didn't think anyone would be coming upstairs anyway, and she didn't think it was a big deal if he saw her boobs anyway.

She's supposed to respond with 'More rules" here. It's not Ok for your sister to be so oblivious, and it's certainly not OK for your friends to see her breasts.

it's not 'snitching' or causing trouble, it's providing an opportunity for her to learn something really essential: That she isn't alone on the planet.

Yeah, you should tell your mom. Its not cool for her to be changing with her bed-room door wide open. I would never do that. I'm suprised she would. I thought everyone wanted their privacy. :p
