Is wanting to be a professional slacker a good thing?
I have been looking over my life, and I have seen that I am a slacker, but I am a straight A student. I realized that I am knowledgable, but I don't have to do excess work as long as I do the basics. Now I want to go to college, I want to get a law degree, but before becoming a lawyer, I want to take a couple years off at which time I will go to concerts, work rarely, and just enjoy a life not ruled by materialistic wants. Is this a good thing?
Re: Is wanting to be a professional slacker a good thing?
It's great that you're smart and such, but idk.
I'd be turned off a guy who wants to spend several years of his life doing nothing productive, it just seems lazy.
I know people from highschool that tried that and they just got sucked into the lazy lifestyle.
I broke off contact with them because I constantly felt like I was much more mature than them and that they just weren't going anywhere in life even though they were perfectly capable of doing so.

I am mature, but I am this guy with this wildness inside, and I think I will need some time to get it all out before trying to start a productive life.

You're only 16.Everyone thinks they're mature at that age.
I wanted to take a year off and backpack europe when I was your age.
Things change.
Life changes, Ideals change.
Give yourself a couple years before making that decision, it will most likely change.

Hey based on my age you shouldn't judge. I am mature enough to acknowledge when doing something is wrong, by turning down easy sex, by not being comfortable without love, by not having the urges to drink when the bottle is prevalent, I am a straight A student who is also mentally unstable, paranoid schizophrenic, who is steeped in this anger, but deep compassion. I want to take the time off before starting a life full of commitment.
I personally think it is fine. I mean you said you were planning on going to college after you take your couple years off right? I'd say enjoy the rest of your teenage years and then worry about adult stuff later. Only problems is that it might not look good when you're applying for jobs later and you'll probably be behind when you start school again.
Re: Is wanting to be a professional slacker a good thing?
Set goals and keep to a time restriction. Make yourself understand that you'll have 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years break before going to Univeristy to study law and stick to that committment. Plan what you'll do in the break and plan it well. Make sure you have enough money for food and shelter and health. If you don't plan, you'll just fall into a cycle of computer games, alcohol, television... whatever. You need to plan worthwhile things and keep yourself busy, yet still relaxed.
Just don't fall into a cycle of laziness, because it is SO hard to get out of. Especially if you want to study law.

^ Agreed.
I have several... actually come to think of it all my close friends here took at minimum a year off in between.
There's nothing wrong with it - but I would use that time to be a bit productive... Save up your money with the intention to use it towards your college education. And set that goal/timeline and know that its important to follow it.

Why not get college out the way and then slack :/
It seems easier to get the education part out the way first and then you don't have to learn again ..
