Default This is going to sound crazy, but...

How would you prevent yourself from laughing? I don't mean to say I want to be serious all the time, I've got nothing against laughing when something is genuinely funny. But the problem is I do it for too long and too hard, even when I don't find something funny, and I look like a total idiot. I think it's called something like pathological laughter. Sometimes when I laugh, I actually feel sad on the inside.

Yes I'm sort of the same, I used to laugh at really inappropriate times aswell. A few ideas:

Try and think of something sad; the daily news is usually pretty good inspiration for this, theres always something miserable on there. Although this can be unpleasant it does usually take away that uncontollable urge to laugh.

Try biting your tounge or your inner cheek. Not too hard but hard enough to feel, and this can act as a distraction. Try doing multiplication tables in your head or try to remember sometthing, a friends mobile number or something like that/ The reason you keep laughing is because you usually keep replaying the funny moment/ scene in your head over and over so if you distract yourself and think about something else usually you'll be able to stop laughing.

You could try a bit of reverse psychology. Keep telling yourself "this is really funny, laugh some more" and often the thing doesn't seem that funny anymore.

If a laugh does sneek out you can always try to disguise it as a bit of a coughing fit until you manage to calm down a bit. At the same time try and exhale as much air from your lungs as possible. Removing air means the laugh cant continue so it stops.

Ah well I suppose it ain't that weird, lol. But I do tend to go a bit crazy, like, laughing and crying a the same time. Not like laughing so hard I cry, but crying one moment, then I look somewhere else and all of a sudden I decide to laugh. Yeah.

I tried holding it in as much as I could today and I sort of prevailed! I like being a little more mellow, not just giggling at anything anyone says. Makes me look stupid, and I get strange looks.
